For those of you who might have had preeclampsia before, is there anything you and your doctor are doing differently this time to prevent it or make the outcome better? I delivered at 29 weeks with my son due to pre-e and it came on so suddenly there wasn't much they could do about it. I'm seeing a perinatolgist tomorrow because I also have a clotting condition, but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or tips in this area that I might want to bring up with my doctor. TIA ladies
Re: Those who have had preeclampsia before?
I had it badly with my last pregnancy. My BP started going up at 26 weeks and by 30 I was in the hospital. With this pregnancy my BP was low to begin with, but I developed bronchitis at 21 weeks. The coughing made my BP start to creep up and my OB put me on Labetalol straight away. So far it is working and my BP is totally normal. (It didn't work at all last time. Only strict bed rest kept my BP under control.)
I am taking a baby aspirin daily along with my PNV and Labetolol. This was started prior to pregnancy because of a history or repeat loss. (I had 2 m/c after DD was born, and 3 before she was conceived.) My OB wants me to stay on the baby aspirin because it has been shown to "help" those women with early signs of PIH/pre-e.
Good luck,
I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy and around 37 weeks I had c/s to deliver the baby. It was just within 2 days when they found out high protein in my blood. With this pregnancy, @ 16 weeks, I was told to start taking 1 baby aspirin a day. My OB says this is what they normally do to prevent its re-occurence. I am also so much worried now as I have got GD @16 weeks with this pregnancy. Please stay hydrated and share any tips which your OB gives you. GL.
