High-Risk Pregnancy

Heart-shaped uterus?

I'm not technically high-risk yet, but thought this board might be more helpful to this particular question. I learned a couple weeks ago that I have a heart shaped - or bicornate - uterus. They said it's hard to tell how severe it is at the moment and everything was fine with the LO now, but there may be implications later in the pregnancy. I'm just curious if anyone here has experienced this and what their pregnancy has been like thus far. I've also had 2 instances of spotting this pregnancy, and heavy bleeding today that was very scary, but they said it was unrelated to my ut shape (they actually couldn't find out what was causing it). Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Re: Heart-shaped uterus?

  • From what I've read (I have a didelphyc uterus), pregnancy outcomes with BU can vary a great deal, depending on where the placenta is located (the idea being that the actual uterine wall has better blood supply than the septum).

You might want to join and post this on the Mullerian Anomalies board on Yahoo - the ladies there will have better information and more experience with this.

    Hope this helps!  Mary

  • I also have a heart-shaped uterus. I was told by one doctor that I would definitely go into PTL, have an incompetent cervix and have a small baby.

As of today, I'm 37w 3d and have no issues whatsoever.  Our little girl is measuring to date and is growing well!

That being said, there can be issues associated with this condition, but they are by no means definites in every pregnancy.

    Good luck!

  • I have this and had zero problems with DD, who was born at a healthy 7lbs at 36w.  GL!!!
