When you put LO down for a nap...

Do you just put them in their crib drowsy and leave?   Or do you wait until they fall asleep?    We're just starting crib naps, and I've been hanging out in her room all day the past few days, but that's starting to seem a little counterproductive.

I normally sit in the rocker in her nursery to make sure she isn't going to fuss before I get too far. If she can see me, she stays awake to stare at me, so I have to get out of her line of vision. I normally put her in there drowsy, turn on the mobile, wait a few minutes to make sure she is OK, then slip quietly out of the room.

I lay her drowsy and she puts herself to sleep. If she fusses than I pick her up and rock her but her drowsy is almost always a precursor to immediate sleep.

I put her in drowsy but awake.. with her sea horse.. once the sea horse is off shes usually out by then and I take it out.

Uh taking to crib = too much effort for her short naps. lol DD is frequent but short napper so I leave her wherever she falls asleep.

I put her in the crib when she was younger just to get her used to sleeping in her crib, and I waited until she fell asleep then carried her in to her room. I still wait for her to fall asleep before putting her down for the night because she's a grump at night and usually has terrible fits when she's trying to fall asleep.

I give her a paci and leave the room... If she starts to fuss I'll try to give her her paci again... if she fusses for more that 5 minutes I'll try one last time and then just let her cry until she falls asleep (a new thing_)  The first day she cried for about 15 minutes.. but since then it has only been about 5 minutes or so.  I hate to hear her cry but she needs her nap.

 

But it also doesn't usually come to that.  She is pretty good about going to sleep without crying.. only occasionally does she fuss.

I normally lay him in his bed when he is sleepy with his binki then turn on his music/light box and he is *normally* out like a light. though today not so much.... *sigh* so much for homework....

I just tuck him in awake.  Usually he gives a grunt or two, and is quiet within minutes.  I walk out of the room after he gets put down, otherwise he'd stare at me all day.  We've been really lucky at how easy the process is, at least up until this point.  Now if he'd just stay down for more than an hour, that would be the trick I'd like to learn.

I used to put him in his swing for naps but started his crib back up again a month or so ago.  It wasn't easy at first but I would rock him until he was drowsy, put him down, and walk out the room.  He would fuss/cry and I would go in every 5 min and soothe him.  It got better and better.

Now he doesn't even really like to be rocked much.  I put him down sleepy, put on his seahorse and white noise and walk out the room.  He stays awake if I am around him because he knows I am there.  So once I leave he is able to drift off.

DS cannot fall asleep unless being worn so I have to do that.  If I try to take him out of the Moby he wakes up soon after, so normally he takes all his naps in the Moby.

Okay, I'm seriously jealous.  My DD fights each and every nap.  I wait until she starts to yawn and rub her eyes.  I turn off all the lights, set her down in her bassinet, and turn on her heartbeat bear.  Within seconds, she starts screaming.  I rock her until she settles and falls asleep which can be anywhere between 5-30 minutes.  All this so that she can wake up just 20 minutes later.   Oh well, she wakes up happy and rested, so I don't complain... too much!

I put her down when she's drowsy. She does really well at putting herself to sleep. If she starts to cry I go in, pick her up and then put her back down but if she grunts a bit I let her grunt until she sleeps.

I give him his pacifier and turn on the sound machine and projector. He settles himself (usually) with that. He hates going down for naps!

Night time we can put him drowsy. Nap time he needs to be fully asleep.. he's a difficult napper.

i put her in drowsy, turn on the sound machine and shut the door.  Sometimes she falls straight to sleep and other times she plays for a little then goes to sleep.  Now i have to break her and daddy of rocking to sleep at night.  Funny how different parents put their LOs to bed differently.  DD knows if moms at home then she just get put to bed without rocking.
