I am so appalled right now that my exSIL is taking my 13 y/o niece to get her nose pierced. And there is nothing that my brother can do to stop it because he lives here in Philly and they live in Alaska. I'm sorry, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but I will not be one of those parents signing a consent form so that my child can get tattoos and body piercings before they are 18 y/o. If they want to scar themselves, they can do it as a legal adult.
For the record, I have tattoos and have had body piercings all of which I got as an adult.
Re: Will you let your DC get body piercings?
I hope not, but I try not to make too many promises about what kind of parent I'm going to be ten years from now.
I told Mandi she could get her belly button pierced when she turned 16 as long as her father said it was ok. Well my exhusband said no and I respect. That was the only body piercing I would say ok to.
However my ex and I are butting heads because he thinks he has the right to tell the girls no they cant get body piercings when they turned 18. Dont think he realizes that they dont need parental permission when they are 18 lol
I already am a parent 10 years from now because I have a 14 y/o LOL I just told him recently that it would be a cold day in hell when either his father or I sign for a tattoo luckily we are on the same page.

can't a consent form be forged?
our rule was not till we were 18. I would prob make the same rule and turn on the guilt to ask them to wait till 21. hopefully by then it's not as interesting. and I have a tattoo which I got when i was 25
I guess if you go somewhere shady, but most reputable places the parent has to be present and show ID and then sign all of which is kept on file.

body piercings, regular gauge: yes, why not? I had them, and they close up anyway after a while.
body piercings, heavy gauge, and tattoos: no way. they can do that when they're 18. But I will strongly discourage anything too extreme before they're 20.
Overall I do not care for body piercings...but I do kind of like nose piercings. I don't think I'd encourage my daughter to do it if she was under 18 but if she really wanted it and was a good student/well behaved/etc...then I may consider it. Not at 13 though, that's way too young.
