For those that pump at work...

Are most of you able to pump enough at each pumping session to cover how much your LO eats?  Or do many of you have to add an extra pumping session to make up the difference?

 Thanks!

Re: For those that pump at work...

  • DS usually takes 4 4 oz bottles during the day and I usually pump about that much in 3 pumping sessions. But I also do a session before bed and dip in to that if necessary. It's nice to have.

  • For the first month or so of pumping, I was exceeding DS's demands at daycare, however, my output slowly started to wane to wear I was falling short daily by 3 or 4 oz.  Luckily, I had a great freezer stash built up from oversupply issues during the first three months that I didn't have to supplement with formula at all.  I found that by drinking TONS of water and adding an extra pumping session a day, I'm able to just meet his needs.  GL!

  • I pump 4 times a day (twice at work) and get enough for a full day's eating (and sometimes a little more).

  • I pump 3 times at work and once more before bed.  I'm usually able to get what I need for the next day.
  • I get a lot less when I pump at work, but it has still always been enough for DS's next meal.  I have just started to cut out one pumping session per day.
  • I usually pump enough for DS.  Sometimes I end up with a little extra and a couple of times I've had to add an extra session at home but in general I pump enough at work.

  • Admittedly, I'm a lazy pumper.  I can pump just what DS needs (15-16 oz.) in two 10 minute sessions at work, so that's what I do.  I could certainly pump more at work or after he goes to bed to build a bigger freezer stash, but I don't really like pumping so I don't.  If I had supply issues, this would be a completely different story.

  • i usually matched what DD was drinking, ounce for ounce. she'd take about 9-12 ounces in bottles at DCP, and i'd pump that in 3 sessions at work.

the holidays really messed with my routine + supply, so i'm having to pump another time at home after she goes to bed to match day for day. i try to use the freezer stash as little as possible. i consider it my safety net, for atypical needs only, not daily use.

  • I pump 3 times/day at work and used to get at least 14oz (enough for 2 bottles) but my supply started dropping so now I only get about 10 oz. I cut DD's bottles down to 6-6 1/2oz and added another pumping session at night to make up for the 4oz I used to get while at work. So in total, I pump 6 times/day (morning, 3x at work, after dinner, before bed) and probably get about 25oz total.
