2nd Trimester

Anyone work in sales?

I would venture to say this is one of the more stressful jobs in this economy right now....I know lots of people have stressful jobs but i mean when you are prego and paid on commission when no one wants to spend money how is everyone handling it???

How is everyone dealing with the hours and stress being pregnant? Just curious.........

Re: Anyone work in sales?

  • Me!  It's definitely not fun.  I used to drink to handle the stress LOL  Now, I just try and leave it at work when I go home.  I used to worry about how I was going to meet sales goals and find new business when I was at home and I just can't do it anymore.

Do you have any face to face interaction with clients?  I go out on several sales calls each week and I'm wondering how people will respond when I show up 7-8 months pregnant to sell them something.

  • I'm in sales but luckily we are on a fixed incentive/commission right now.  Due to some tasks we have had to take on that take away from our sales time they decided to do this through July.  But if I wasn't I don't think we would be making our bills.  And I would be VERY stressed!!

  • I am also in sales, and I agree, this is one of the most stressful jobs in the current economic situation. I just do the best I can and communicate with my manager as much as possible. It can be tough to forget about all that on the weekends and evenings and just relax, but I do my best.

I also have face to face meetings and wonder what it will be like in the last couple months of the pregnancy - should be interesting. Maybe customers will feel sorry for me?! Just kidding, of course......

  • Up until last month I had been in sales.  Then I was laid off (2nd time in just over a year).  Which is a whole new kind of stress.  I am really undecided if I want to continue in sales due to all the reasons in these posts.  Or, would I be less stressed going to a 9 to 5 desk job?  Not sure if I would be happy sitting in an office all day and in sales there is a lot of money....not sure if I can come close to that in an office job.

  • Me! I sell advertising at a newspaper - definitely one of the worst places to be right now. I just try to leave the stress at work - I don't think about work when I'm at home. I don't beat myself up when I don't get a sale. If I start to get upset I just remind myself that it's just a job, my baby is more important, calm down. If I need to, I'll take a few minutes to take a break and do something else. That's really all that can be done!
  • I work in advertising for a magazine so im right there with you. I had a mental breakdown last night but im doing better today. Its definitely stressful! I used to have a drink too but its been hard cutting out all the stress relievers for baby purposes LOL...Yea i do in person meetings as well so im kinda hoping if nothing else i start getting sympathy sales haha. Being so emotional though its hard not to take it personally...my job i deal with renewals of the same clients and then new business as well. Those take a lot more work and so forth and the energy is hard to come by sometimes.

Its been a rough year for everyone lets hope 2010 is better :)
