For you nesties that knit and/or crochet, where did you start? How did you begin to learn? Is there a book I can get that will help get me started?? All the books I have seen say like DS or SS, ect.. I don't know knitting or crochet language, I need a book for dumbies or something.
Re: NPR-Knitting and/or crochet question?
years and years and years ago I bought one of those "learn to knit" kits at Michaels. It had needles/yarn/and a little book showing the basics.
If I were to be a beginner today-I would go to knittinghelp.com and watch the videos there. Get a pair of straight needles, a ball of yarn, and just go for it!
I've heard the book Stitch n B!tch is good for beginners, too.
also, join Ravelry.com for crazy amounts of inspiration
Ravelry.
The Knit Witch YouTube videos are also a huge help. I learned to knit 10 years ago from my ex-MIL, then restarted about 6 months ago. I am now contemplating a complicated lace shawl.

Youtube!
I am still working on knitting but I think I really got the hang of crocheting.
I learned at my local yarn store... I also have several reference books. I highly recommend Stitch and *** It's funny and very helpful!
Good luck!
