High-Risk Pregnancy

subchorionic hemmorage?

I have been spotting for a week, and went to the ob yesterday and then had an ultrasound and they found that I have a subchorionic hemmorage. They have put me on bedrest for 3 weeks=has anyone had one of these before? I started doing some reading online and of course freaked myself out, but would love to know the good and the bad from any of you ladies who have had one. Thanks

Re: subchorionic hemmorage?

  • it happened to me. and in 3 weeks the hemmorage was nothing more than a small tear. :]

  • that's reassuring-thanks! Can I ask you a question? Did you continue to spot during those 3 weeks or did it eventually go away? And did you spot at all after that? Thanks!
  • I had a small one around 6 weeks that went away around 9 weeks. No bleeding since.
  • I had a HUGE subchorionic hemorrage (was given a 50% chance of losing the pregnancy).  I literally woke up in a puddle of blood at 8 weeks.  I hemorrhaged/spotted/bled for 6 weeks total until it finally stopped.  Luckily my baby survived & while I did have many other complications during my pregnancy, I am not sure that they were any way related to the SCH.  good luck & hang in there.  Odds are everything will work out just fine.  if you have any more questions for me, page me on the preemie board.

Thank you so much. It really means a lot.

  • I'm going through this right now...and I'm trying to not be freaked out myself. The bleeding started on Christmas and while to a much lesser degree is still continuing. I'm on bed rest too - wishing you the best!
  • I had one with my daughter.  I spotted for awhile (from 4-10 weeks) and by my 12 week ultrasound, it could no longer be seen on the ultrasound.  It was scary at the time but she was born healthy at 41 and a half weeks.

Same here, it's was found at 9 weeks and didn't go away until around 20 weeks i was on bedrest and bleed the WHOLE time. I did go on to have other complications and i do have a small tear in my placenta from it but for the most part, i'm 35 weeks and counting so woohoo!

  • I have one and was on bed rest, then on restricted activity.  My last u/s showed that my sack was reattaching in a couple places, and I have one on Thursday that will hopefully show that it's all healed up.  I'm a little worried because I think I've been doing too much over the holidays and I hope that I haven't made it worse.  I haven't had any cramping or bleeding, so I'm hopin that even though I've been stupid and more active than I should be, I'm still healing.

I bled for 5 days (no bright red, all old, brown blood) and haven't since.  That was the first week of December.

  • I had a rather large one one my posterior(back) uterine wall they found it at the ER when i started bleeding and cramping heavily at 11weeks 5 days. The heavy bleeding stopped about a week after it started but the old blood was kind of trapped inside until about 22/23 weeks when it came out/re-absorbed by itself. The baby is doing well and so am I. Good luck and hang in there. . i know its WICKED scary. When i was in the ER i was scared out of my mind and a male nurse put my mind at ease saying that his wife also had a subchorionic hemmorage and they now have a healthy and happy 2yr old boy. . idk it just made me feel hope. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Feel free to PM if you have any questions or just want to talk :)
  • I had a large one early on - the doctor said it was 4x the size of the baby.  I never had any spotting but was told to take it easy - no exercise, sex etc.  By my 12 week ultrasound it had shrunk considerably and I'm not positive but I think it was gone by my 18 week ultrasound...either that or the doctors weren't concerned about it at all anymore. Everything is going smoothly right now.

    Good luck!!

  • I was in and out of the hospital from about 7-9 weeks and diagnosed with multiple subchorionic hemorrhages with DD.  They resolved completely on their own by 12 weeks.
