Success after IF

How long do the postpartum hot flashes last?

Oh my gosh this is soooo gross!  I wake up positively drenched from head to toe every night.  I know it's one way the body mobilizes all the extra fluid from pregnancy, but it's insane!

  • Yeah, the fun things no one warns you about!  Mine lasted a couple of months, I hate to say.  I BF for about 6 weeks and it definitely lasted that whole time.  And then as I weaned.

  • I'm three and a hald months out, and it still happens to me sometimes.
  • Mine lasted for quite some time.  Then they came back when I stopped pumping and switched to formula.  I don't remember how long, but I do remember having them even when Paige was only waking once per night.  I remember getting up around 3 AM when she got up, feeding her, then changing out of my wet shirt before I went back to sleep.

  • i remember mine lasting a few weeks, and got gradually better after that first week home.
  • I had a good 4 months of hot flashes and night sweats... not fun! I kept a clean stack of tank tops next to my bed for changing out of my cold drenched night shirts when Hank would get us up to nurse.  During the day I'd have really nasty hot flashes if I got the slightest bit warm.. I was scared I wouldn't be able to wear sleeves or a coat all winter :)

But now, at 7 months pp, I don't get hot flashes at all anymore and the night sweats are much less frequent.. like once a week.

  • oh my gosh I totally forgot about them!  I can't remember... maybe 1 or 2 months?
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • With both of my kiddies, I had night sweats for about 6 weeks (I bf as well).  What helped was wearing loose clothes, using just a sheet to cover me, drinking tons of water -especially in the hours before going to bed - and having the ceiling fan on.

No fun, but just a phase.  Good luck.

  • Only about 3 weeks for me (the drenching night sweats.)  But I was batshiit loony for at least 3 months.  And wait 'til the pp hair loss starts around 2 - 4 months pp.  I have regrowth now ALL around my hairline (so THAT'S where it came from) - these horrible tufts in a weird halo all around my hairline.  And I have saggy boobs.  I'm sorry, what was the question?  Wink
