Please check your carbon monoxide alarms

If you haven't tested yours recently, do it!  My brother's family had a near miss yesterday and it reminded me how important it is to have carbon monoxide alarms (and smoke alarms!) and to make sure you test them regularly.  Everyone is fine and are moved out until the levels are safe but it was scary.

  • Glad that they are all ok.  We check our alarms and in our state it is mandatory for the monoixde alarms.  A police officer's family died a few years ago while he was at work from a blocked gas fireplace vent.

  • belle, they sell fire/carbon combo alarms -- very handy!

I know ours works bc I routinely set the fire alarm part off while I cook. I am glad everyone is ok.

  • thanks for the reminder.  Ours went off this past summer because the battery was dying.  At the time we didn't realize that's what was happening so DH shuffled me and the kids to the front yard in a hurry. I of course freaked out. I literally sat in the front yard on the lawn for about 45 minutes. I looked really silly to people driving by.  My dad came over (does HVAC) and checked all possible leaks and we were safe.  We went back inside, but never replaced the battery.  I need to do that. soon.

  • I just checked ours. I was so annoyed. We stayed up until 2:45am NYE and drank two bottles of wine. Then at 5:45am the alarm started sounding intermitently because battery was dying. So I was tired, still drunk and hunting batteries and a screw driver. But...better safe than sorry.
