Kindle owners - backup?

Can you backup the books onto your computer?  I just got one for Xmas and I love it, but I'd love to be sure the books are backed up somewhere that I have purchased.

They are always backed up on amazon, you can actually delete them from your kindle then get them again for free if you have already paid for them. If for some reason you were to loose your books off your kindle they are still on amazon.
