CD questions from a lurker...

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and have had most of my CD questions asked.  We are just getting set up to CD with combo to prefolds/covers and pockets...so here is what I'm still wondering,,,

1.  Recommend your wetbag

2. What do you do when out of the house and your LO poops.  Put it all in the wetbag? vs Getting some solids off in a public restroom?  It is one thing to deal with poop in my own home, but I'm not sure about subjecting others to seeing/smelling it.  My DD is formula fed and has PB poo.

3. What do you do for wipes when out for the day?  Cloth wipes with a small spray bottle or just disposible wipes for those times?

4.  Where so you change LO?  a set up in the bathroom, nursery or some other place.  If not in a bathroom, do you just put the poopy diaper aside and deal with it after finishing up with LO?  Also, where is your diaper pail, in the bathroom or the nursery or somewhere else?  My problem is that we spend the majority of our time (therefore the majority of diaper changes) downstairs where there is one small bathroom and the common area is very open...the nursery is upstairs.

TIA!

Re: CD questions from a lurker...

  • 1. I don't like my pail liner, so I won't recmmend it.  My wet bag for out of the house is by Happy Jack's on etsy... she's currently only doing customs (last I checked).

    2. Since DS is still EBF, I don't hav eto worry abou tit yet.  I'll probably plop while I'm out- the idea of dealing with it after its sat.... NOT appealing.  People smell poop in public bathrooms all the time... that's kind of what they're for.

    3. We use cloth wipes with a spray bottle or just get it wet in the sink.  Its a major pain to pull disposable wipes out of a diaper before putting it into the wash and there's never a trashcan right next to the changing table.

    4. I'll probably just put the dirty dipe to the side until I can put DS somewhere safe and then take care of the diaper immediately.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and have had most of my CD questions asked.  We are just getting set up to CD with combo to prefolds/covers and pockets...so here is what I'm still wondering,,,

    1.  I have a Planetwise pail liner (clothdiaperclearance.com), a Swaddlebees wetbag (mediumish sized for diaper bag) and a Planetwise small wetbag (for wet wipes or 1 diaper).

    2. Poopy diapers are rolled up and tossed in wetbag to deal with when I get home!

    3. Either/or. I usually bring a stack of cloth wipes with a small 99c squirt bottle from Target - but sometimes I throw a small pack of 'sposie wipes in there if I'm feeling lazy.

    4.  Where so you change LO?  Usually the floor. We have a changing table (her dresser) but she squirms a bit much and makes me nervous. Poopy diapers are set to the side until I finish and then I take care of them in the bathroom.

    TIA!

  • 1. I love my Planet Wise wet/dry bag. It has one compartment for clean diapers and one for the dirties/wets. It is awesome! www.clothdiaperclearance.com has some seconds that are cheaper than you can get elsewhere...mine are seconds and I love them just the same :-)

    2. If its ploppable I plop it, if a toilet is nearby (ie family restroom or changing table in a stall). Otherwise it all goes (rolled up) into the wet bag to get taken care of at home.

    3. I use disposable wipes. Embarrassed

    4. I used to use a changing table for DD, but she is too big for that now so its going to the new baby. I have a changing pad on her dresser with everything set up either on, in or next to the dresser. I have two diaper pails currently, one in the bathroom for poopy diapers and one in her bedroom by her dresser (where I change her). I will probably get a third to keep in the baby's changing space (my room) too. We spend most of our time downstairs too but I take DD up to change her. She refuses to get changed anywhere but a changing table and boy is that fun! However, when she was smaller and had no opinion I changed her in the living room on the floor with diapers/wipes etc in our coffee table (its got cubbies like an ottoman) and had a diaper pail in the downstairs bathroom.

  • 1.  Recommend your wetbag - We have Wahmmies pail liners and for the diaper bag we have Mommy's Touch.  It's fine... it was the one available at Amazon for our registry so we got it.  About 12" square, with a zip top.  We have a drawstring one from Swaddlebees that is well made but the drawstring is a BAD idea for wet diapers - ew!

    2. What do you do when out of the house and your LO poops.  I fold up the diaper and put everything into the wet bag and deal with it at home.  Usually by then it has dried so that it's easier to deal with - break it off, etc.  But really as she got older she poops less often so we don't deal with poopy diapers in public like we used to.

    3. What do you do for wipes when out for the day?  Cloth wipes, a peri bottle from the hospital with plain water.  LOVE cloth wipes when out - great for snotty noses, messy/drolly mouths, even as a toy to distract.

    4.  Where so you change LO?  We spend almost all our time downstairs, but the changing area is still upstairs in the nursery.  This pic is sort of what we have now (now we have the shelves for the changing table - had a bit of a CL purchase mishap but got them later that week):

So you see there is the diaper pail to the left, and the blue basket goes to the right now and holds her dirty clothes.  On the dresser to the left is a pink basket full of cloth wipes, a yellow basket with diaper cream, spray bottle of water, etc.  Diapers are in the top drawer of the dresser.  When a diaper is poopy, we just place it on top of the dresser (have premium-sized PFs I use for changing table cover and for putting on the dresser when there's a poopy diaper).  Once DD is changed and fresh, she goes in her crib or the floor and I go to the bathroom and take care of the diaper and then come back and drop it in the pail.  The bathroom is next door.

  • 1.  Little For Now wetbags (www.littlefornow.com) for my pail liners, 1 planetwise for my diaper bag and 2 mommy's touch bags for daycare, size large, rotate everyother day.

    2. BF, just starting rice cereal, poopy dipes are rolled up and put in wetbag to be put in diaper pail when at home.  I usually let DS air out and deal with the diaper, then rediaper him.

    3. We use disposable wipes and toss in the garbage.  We only use wipes on poopies.  We rarely use wipes for wet only dipes.

    4. We change DS on his dresser on a changing pad. He loves his changing pad.  He loves to look at the paintings above it. I have done it on our MIL's guest bed with a blanket, or on the floor with our changing pad when visiting others.

Oh, and diaper pail is right next to his dresser in his room.  I may get a small pail for icky diapers if/when the solids become unbearable, and need dunking/separate quarters. :)

  • 1 - I'm currently using a medium wetbag from The Goodmama, but once I have two in CDs, I think I'm going to get a large bag from Monkeyfootdesigns (on Etsy). For pail liners, my Planet bag is my favorite, with my Blueberry drawstring coming in second.

2 -  I take care of poops wherever they happen. I change DS on the changing table, setting the dirty diaper aside while I get him all cleaned up and resituated in the stroller. Then I wheel him into the stall and scrape/dump whatever I can into the toilet there. Usually I can do this in a handicap stall, so others don't really see what's going on. I keep a small plastic (ick!) produce bag in my diaper bag in the event I have a really nasty diaper while out, then I'll just bag it and spray when I get home. But I try not to do this often, I hate using the plastic bags unless absolutely necessary.

3 - I use chlorine-free, biodegradable disposable wipes while out, it's just easier since my diaper bags are packed to the brim already...

4 - DS gets changed mostly upstairs in his room. It's a pain, but it's nice to have all of his dirties in one spot (pail is kept in his room next to the changing station). if I get really lazy, sometimes I'll pull a clean diaper out of the diaper bag on the first floor and  change him downstairs, but not very often, only because that means I have a wet diaper sitting on the stairs waiting to go up. Probably not the most efficient system, but it works for us.
