EmmieB-I can't seem to find good jersey in SJ either. Have you considered looking online at all? I've found cute stuff just googling.

6 Yards and i paid $24 

I'm going to hem it this weekend but depending on what kind of fabric you get like jersey which will roll when its cut you wont have to hem it, i however did not feel like paying 7 bucks a yard.  HTH
