SIL vent #1 (aka DH, I told you so)

So I will admit, she hasn't been to FH-ish so far, and the baby is actually super cute, in spite of being a ginger (don't let Mrs read this)

But I posted a few weeks ago my vent about DH offering for us to buy one of their plane tickets, b/c they basically expect everyone to subsidize their life b/c her H is too lazy to work full-time. And the way they went about it really irked me - instead of coming out and saying "We'd like to come, but need some help with the plane tickets, can you do that?" they said they were coming, then acted shocked at the price of tickets (just like last time...) and played the "Well, I guess we'll just drive...all the way...with a baby..." pity card, and DH bit and offered to buy the ticket. Which pissed me the fug off b/c we can't afford it either right now. We put a lot of our trip to Chile on the credit card and are still paying it off, plus we have eleventy jillion things that need to be fixed around our house. And now DH has to have oral surgery, which is 80% OOP. So we can't afford it either, but DH refused to rescind his offer and tell their spoiled azzes to use their Christmas $$ to buy the tickets.

So, they are now here, and guess who just bought a couple of ipod touches? Yep, that's right. Many hundreds of dollars of electronics, when they "really having a tough time financially." Yeah. See, DH, I told you so - they *could* have bought their own tickets, they just would rather spend their money on something else.

Are they for real?? Wow... Jus, wow. ColindaP told ya so, DH. I'm sorry that they are taking advgantage of you guys like this. That's just totally wrong.

hmmmm, that's BS.  i was wondering if you were surviving ok with them there.  i was afraid that you might have caught a charge by now and some big burley woman named Bertha made you her biitch. 

maybe you could sell their ipod touches on e-bay and keep the money and when they ask what happened you could say, "sorry we really needed the money to pay for your plane tickets."

Jen, they are for real, but the sad thing is, they think nothing of it. They just assume that since they don't make much money (once again, entirely in their control b/c he works part-time) that everyone will subsidize their life for them. They know that DH and I make a lot more money than they do, which is true. But we also have a lot more expenses that we actually pay for ourselves.

Tex - not even a FH SIL could make me do something to land myself in SHeriff Joe's jails. ::shudder:: I may not be around a super lot for the next few days, it's hard to bump inconspicuously.

Yes. "Lesson learned." Right, well, how many times do we have to learn this lesson?

Ooooooooooh, JERKS!  We say we can't afford things sometimes but it's really that we want to put that money elsewhere - but we'll typically disclaim that.

That's sooooooooooooo something my BIL and SIL would do!!

I swear, people never cease to amaze me. That's just beyond selfish. I think I'd ask for a couple hundred in repayment since they had the $$ for the ipods. grrrrr.... (Then again, dh's little brother still owes us $500 for a motorcycle he bought of dh like 4 years ago. Never. gonna. see. it.)
