I asked this question a while ago and the majority was Kotex or Always with wings. So I went out and bought a pack of Always w/ Wings Overnight Protection.

I haven't bought any yet, but get the thickest most absorbant ones you can find. I know last time I took all the ones I could from the hospital and when I ran out of them, nothing I could buy at the store worked as well. I had to change them really frequently and had a few messes. Yuck.
I was actually advised to buy disposable underwear instead of pads. My hospital doesn't give pads out, so someone I know said buy the disposable underwear instead. So I'm gonna go look for those and then if I can't find them, I'll use depends for the first couple of days until it's low enough to wear regular pads. That way too you don't leak over everything you are wearing.....

I actually didn't have heavy post partum bleeding last time. A regular pad was fine. I bought Always with wings -- the long ones, and they were more than sufficient. I'll probably do the same this time. I still have some of the gigantic pads from the hospital in my cabinet from DD's birth, since I never used them.
Even though I didn't bleed heavily pp, I can say I was using pads/pantyliners for a loooooong time pp.

YES! Steal as many as you can from the hospital because you won't find those kind or even close anywhere.
