2nd Trimester

Sciatica anyone??

Anyone experience sciatica during their pregnancy? I just started my 2nd trimester last week and I have been experiencing mild sciatica already.  My husband is a chiropractor and he will not adjust me, give me muscular stimulation or ultrasound (cannot do either of those when pregnant).  I am just looking for other alternatives.  Sometimes it gets pretty bad at night even when im laying down it hurts.  Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

TIA!

  • yes they do, but my husband doesnt work with pregnant women too much so he would never rather not.  I meant that you are not to receive ultrasound and electrical stimulation while pregnant not adjustments.

Plus, its a very mild sciatica that gets bad at certain times.  I guess if it were to get much worse I would look into more options!!

I wondered that too.  My pregnant chiropractor adjusts my pregnant self regularly.  She also gets adjusted.

    Stretching helps a lot, too.

  • my chiro adjusts me still - just no us or other therapy to follow.

If that's the case, he should be able to recommend a colleage who does.

yes, i guess he absolutely could.  But when I asked my doctor about adjustments, he decided against them.  Maybe because my husband was in the room when he said that my husband is keeping quiet about it? i am not sure. I am going to have to have a talk with my husband about that.  Thanks everyone for your help!

I'd definitely talk to him about it again.  I felt instant relief after my first adjustment with my new chiro.

  • Yep, as soon as the 2nd Tri hit, so did the sciatica...with a vengence! I talked to my Dr about what I could do...Her best advice was tylenol and heating pads occasionally and to not stand/sit for long periods of time if I can help it. She suggested for me to start going to a chiropractor on a regular basis, as well as start getting pre-natal massage on a fairly regular basis just to loosen up the muscles that are tightening up. There are lots of us all in the same boat

  • I have a heated massage pillow that helps a little.  At least in those times when it hurts just sitting or laying down.  I have some PT stretches I'm going to start soon, I've heard that can help.  Thankfully in my case I think a lot was baby position.  This is the first morning I woke up and she wasn't sitting on the right side.  It's also the first morning in almost a week I haven't had the burning or numbness down my right side!

  • I feel your pain honey!  :(  I posted twice about this already this week.  I had to go home from work yesterday, as I was in so much agonizing pain.  I keep experiencing these mind numbing, jolts throughout my tailbone area and it causes me to literally drop down and I well up with tears.  It hurts to walk or move.  I am starting physical therapy tomorrow.  My doctor said this should help, so I sure am hoping so!
  • i have it real bad. I go see a OMT doctor and he adjust me plus does trigger point injections!!! this really helps!!
  • Thanks everyone so much for your responses and helpful info! I am definitely going to try some of your ways!
