Nikon D90. It's more camera than *I* personally need, but my dh is a photographer and he understands how to use all of the manual settings much better than I do. But even though I don't necessarily understand all of the technical aspects, I'm still able to get great photos with it.
D90. I love it because it has most of the capabilities that the pros use and the auto that beginners need; love it because it is compatible (auto focus) with more lens that the "lower" models. Love it for the shutter speed and the pictures I take...
We just got the Nikon D3000. I have't used it a ton but I love it so far. It is easy to use (in auto mode - I have not really used in manual). We did a lot of research and it was between the Nikon and the Canon. They were both pretty compatible but we got a better deal on the Nikon. I think the D3000 replaced the D60.
