Trouble TTC

newbie anxious....

Hi!  I've been TTC for 6 months now and been off the pill for 6 months also.  I know it has not been long but I am feeling scared.  Every time I poas, it's so depressing when it comes out negative.  My husband is very encouraging but I feel so sad because right around the time of the month he asks me if i got my period and when I do it's so sad to tell him.  He's very nice and tells me its ok sweetheart.  Although it's only been six month and if this continues I can see how it can take a toll on a marriage.  I'm 33 (gonna be 34 in Feb.) do you think it's too early to talk to a doctor about testing myself and my husband for fertility issues?  So far all I have been doing is charting for the past 6 months.  Any other advice you can give me?

I'm just here for advice and encouragement. Thank you for listening:)

Hi!  Nice to meet you.  I don't think it's too early to talk to a doctor.  I went to an RE when I was 33 just so he could check things out and make sure that the problems we'd been having were not me.  He did some tests and I ended up getting pg that month.  I know that's not true for everyone - it's a hard road for a lot of people.  I am on that road now, trying for a 2nd.

    Good luck to you.

Just one suggestion - in order to be prepared for the possible sticker shock, check with your insurance company before visiting the RE. My insurance company did not cover an RE if you had not been actively trying for 1 year and were under 35, or had not previously been diagnosed with an issue like PCOS.  Some insurances use 30 as the cut-off.

Also - sometimes your OB/GYN can do the initial diagnostics (bloodwork, u/s) but I would certainly suggest a RE for anything beyond that.

    Started TTC 05.08
Me: Stage II endo, borderline high FSH
    DH: perfect
    1 lap, 5 IUIs = 4 BFNs and 1 c/p
    2 IVFs, 2 FETs = 1 BFN, 1 c/p, 1 ectopic and finally a sticky BFP in May 2011!

It depends on your age.  My first one took me 11 months to conceive, but I felt I had some time.  This time around I was 35 and at 8 months I went to the specialist and...tada... polyps in the uterus.  They are out now and January will be my first month trying again.  If you are older, I believe the recommendation is to get help after 6 months.  Try not to be too streseed out.  Having a newborn is stressful enough.  Best of luck.

It's never too soon to start questioning, especially since we're in our 30s...

I started questioning my fertility last spring (which feels like forever ago in "TTC world") and it seems like my OBGYN is ruling out everything it ISN'T before figuring out what the problem is.  Doctors seem to put everyone through the same steps before sending you off to see a specialist.  They are still telling me to "relax and it will happen"....grrr.

    Good luck!

I went right to an RE after 6 mos. as I was 32, regular AF, ovulation monitoring and no dice.  At our age, you can't waste time.  Depending on how long you were on the pill, it may take awhile to get back to a normal cycle.  My RE said it was good to come in, though I think she may have put that we had been TTC for one year (for insurance purposes).  They should do testing on you and your DH, as IF probs are 50/50.  Good luck! :)
