2nd Trimester

mama's with cats

Anyone heard anything about this or used it?  I plan on just keeping doors shut but thought it might be worth a shot.

Re: mama's with cats

  • I'm not too worried about the cats, I plan on keeping the door shut and making the cats scared of that room by shooting them with the water gun when they go near it.

The product looks pretty good tho for preventing falls and such. I just don't like the way it looks. (i know that's snotty. :( )

I agree it isn't pretty, but when it comes to safety I guess it isn't my concern.  Unfortunately the water bottle doesn't work with my kitty, he even hops in the shower while I'm running it =/

  • Wow. You have a special kitty lol!
  • Actually we plan on getting something similar...it will just be the netting though not the frame too. My thought is the cats are going to be more interested in the room if they aren't allowed in there (as they are now).  So we will limit their access but put the netting over the crib when they are allowed in to keep them off the bedding and/or baby.

    agree

  • I love my cats like no one's business!  However, they (All three)  are pure bred Siamese a** holes and they refuse to be retrained.  When I got the first two from the breeder they were fully trained, but then we got the third from a private home and the other two learned bad behavior from her.  I can't train them to do anything!  I'm going to have to fully net my crib and pack n play.  I don't see another way around it.  I could try spraying the "keep away" stuff on the door frame to LO's room, but I worry about whats actually in that crap, for the safety of my baby and for my cats.

  • I have three cats and we plan on (I know it sounds a bit ghetto but..) putting a screen door on the baby's room. My vet actually suggested it and I think it's the best solution for us. This way we can keep the cats out but still hear the baby when she cries and still peek in occassionally while she's sleeping without having to open the door and risk them running in there. I love my cats to pieces but I know they will crawl right in that crib and snuggle up to baby if they get the chance and I want to avoid that at all costs. I didn't like the idea of keeping the door shut all the time while she's sleeping so this way I can have it both ways. Door shut but still see in.
  • Hmm.. I think I like the screen door idea. We have three cats and I am only nervous about our newest kitten. She is so sweet, but such a pain in the as#. She also tries to get in the shower and the spray bottle doesn't phase her in the least. She is such a beggar for food that I am worried she will be all over the baby when nursing and/or eating. At the same time she is the biggest cuddler and i know she will want to snuggle the baby. I will have to run the screen door past DH. lol

  • Yeah it's not the most attractive thing LOL, but it's only temporary. Once the baby is older you can put the regular door back on.

  • We used a crib tent with DD when she was a baby.  Worked great, kept even our very curious cat out and wasn't an inconvenience until she started to get bigger and we had to drop the mattress down (hard to lean into).  By that point, though, she was big enough and the cats were indifferent enough that we were comfortable removing it.
