Okay - so I got AF a couple of months ago (9months pp) and my supply dips every time.
DS is allergic/intolerant to many things - the main ones being dairy, soy and wheat - so taking Mother's milk, etc. won't do any good.
I absolutely can not produce enough to keep up with him. I just ran out of my freezer stash.
I am nursing every 2 hours during the day and he is waking more at night (2-3x) to eat also.
I am wondering what you ladies do. If I supplemented with formula - it would have to be prescription formula and I'm not sure he would even take it (I've only given formula once and that was when he was like 3 days old and it was about an ounce).
Any advice??? I am willing to pump more...but we all know that he can get more than my pump. I never get full when on AF to pump much in the first place.
Re: Anyone ever have to supplement?
Hey Cassandra, I'm sorry you're having supply issues. I am too. If I'm home with him it's fine, but I am struggling to pump enough milk for him for the 3 days a week he goes to daycare. What sucks most is that I have a large freezer stash that I can't even use b/c it is contaminated with wheat I was eating before I found out he was allergic to it. Why wouldn't mother's milk tea/fenugreek do any good? Are you afraid he'll react to them? I get nearly nothing when I try to pump alone, but if I nurse him on one side and pump the other at the same time then I can get enough for a cup of bm for him. Have you tried that already? I wish there was something else I could suggest. I'm wondering if I should trial hemp milk once he's a year old and continue nursing. Good luck!!
TTC since Jan 07. Dx with PCOS Jan 08
You know, after doing more research I think I could take fenugreek. I know I can't take Mother's Milk because it contains the dairy protein.
I'll have to stop at Whole Foods tonight and pick some up.
Christina - I have an appt. with the GI specialist on the 5th and will be asking about Hemp Milk instead of Rice Milk since the hemp milk has so many more nutrients and fat than rice milk. I'll let you know what he says.
