2nd Trimester

And we're team..

Inconclusive Results!!! The good thing is that the baby measured fine everywhere, but they kind of rushed the end of the visit because we were the last appointment on Christmas Eve and they all wanted to leave. So they took a quick look and told us that they didn't see anything obvious dangling between the legs but sometimes at 19 weeks they can't see anything even if it's a boy, so they weren't confident in telling us one way or the other.

Of course, we are very excited that everything is looking and measuring normal and we loved seeing the baby moving around, but we really wanted to know this time so we could talk to our daughter in advance about the sex of the baby and so that we could only have to pick out one name. :) I got so excited to find out beforehand that it was kind of a let-down to be told nothing. Oh well, Team Green once again!!

Re: And we're team..

  • Oh, I would have been bummed to not find out.  DH had a hard time sleeping in the nights leading up to the big U/S because he was so excited.  Sounds like you are being nice and patient with those results.  Great feeling that the baby is looking healthy.  Do you get another U/S at all?

  • We had the same thing happen to us. The tech said "I'm gonna go with a girl because I haven't seen anything to make me think it is a boy." This kind of bummed me out but I have to go again at 30 weeks to make sure my placenta rises so we will find out for sure then. Any chance you will have another ultrasound?
  • So they told u sometimes they cant see anything between the legs even at 19 weeks? That doesnt sound too convincing. I had U/S with both my boys at around that time and you could DEFINITELY tell. And we had our U/S at 18w5d with DD and you could see she was a girl. I think they really were rushing you. I'm sorry :(( But congrats on a healthy baby!!
  • I had one at 15 wks 5 days that said very very likely girl and one at 16 weeks 4 days that said def girl.  What's up with "well, sometimes you can't see anything". Sounds like an I want to get out of here cop out to me.
  • Yeah, I felt like they really just wanted to go home so they didn't really try other than the quick glance. I'm actually thinking it's probably a girl or maybe the baby wasn't at the ideal angle and they didn't want to waste their time trying to get him/her to move. Because I am 35, "advanced maternal age", I may have to have an ultrasound later on or maybe my OB will take pity on me and use the ultrasound machine they have in their office to have a look for me. Right now there are no other ultrasounds scheduled so I may be SOL. I am really thinking it is more likely a girl than a boy but since they would not confirm it I can't go telling DD about her "baby sister" just yet. Let the Great Name Debate begin!!
  • Are you going to get a 3D ultrasound?  If so, they will definitely be able to tell at that.  They are elective and done outside of the doctor's office, but really cool to see, so we are definitely getting one done and I am having them check then to make sure that my little girl is definitely a girl!
