sick again...

Caleb got more antibiotic for Christmas.  Boo!  He has bronchitis again and was started on meds christmas eve and more nebulizer treatments.  The good thing is that the infection is in a different lobe from all the problems last month.  All of this started pretty abrubtly after playing in the basement with daddy for about an hour.  So on Friday we are having a family friend who owns a restoration business come and assess the basement for mold.  I kind of hope they find something so we can get it fixed.  But at the same time, it could involve a homeowner's insurance claim without any gaurantee that it'll be paid for.  I just want my baby to stop getting sick!!  Does anyone know of any other reputable companies that I could call for estimates / second opinions if we do end up having a problem?  TIA!

  • I don't know of any companies, but I do know you can go and buy a $10 mold test kit to do at home.  Maybe try that before paying someone?

Good luck... while i don't wish mold on you, ikwym when you say you'd almost like them to find something because at least it's an answer to your problem!

  • I asked DH who used to do home inspections on the side and he said you could check with your home inspector to see if they do aerocell (sp?) tests. It's a small capsule that gets hooked up to an air pump that is set up in your house overnight and collects samples of your air. The inspector will send it off to a lab.  An inspector usually will have a mold certification if they sat through the classes for it. He said the aerocell tests if far more accurate than the little petri dish tests that most inspectors will try to use but it will cost more. Good luck. Mold is a scary thing. I hope it will lead you down the right path to figure out why Caleb keeps getting sick. Oh, and he said he would choose an inspector over a mold removal company to do the assessment to keep it honest.
