*watching Teen Mom. I won't spoil anything*
I used to really like Catelynn, but when Teen Mom started, it did a total flip. Exhibit A for example, when her and Tyler weren't using birth control before actually getting officially on birth control. I thought she was more mature for her age, especially after giving her daughter up for adoption, but seriously? She has regressed. I'm in the office right now, but listening to the new episode play in the background. I want to throat punch her.
ETA: However, I would much rather listen to her whine and cry than listen to Amber. SHE is fuvcking ridiculous.
Re: Catelynn is so, so, SO annoying
This show is like a car wreck! You dont want to see it, but some how get sucked in! I get frustrated watching it though cause I think they are all very immature and dont have their priorities in order. Example: The girl Farah is more worried about dating than spending time with her daughter. Really?
They did mention it. Her & Tyler were dating quite some time before their parents started dating/got married. That's how their parents met I believe. Also, Tyler's dad hasn't been out of jail long.
Farrah and her obsession with dating and finding a man is on my shltlist. Grow the f up.
I liked them a lot (did know they were step siblings but believe they were together before the crack head parents got married).
I get angry now because she keeps referring to herself as The Mother. She gave birth, she gave her baby up for adoption. She is NOT Carly's mother. I hate hate hate that. I am adopted and I would FLIP if my birthmom said she was my mom.
I recently found her also, and she did try this to a point. I decided to cut ties within 3 months because of this. Catelynn did do something GREAT but I think her being followed now is overkill.
I also feel that maybe the adopted family is regretting doing an adoption with someone on a reality show now. Which may be why they don't know the adopted last name and what not. Even with my CLOSED adoption both parties had last names and addresses (well until my parents moved).
Um. Yeah.
I was really hoping that the show would encourage them to go against the grain, to not be a stereotype of a teenage mother. My all time favorite immature quote from Farrah is when she was on a date with some dude she asked "So from looking at me would you be able to tell I have a kid?" "No way. You're gorgeous." "I know! Good." ????
Her mother seems to have intentions in the right place, but agreeing to watch Sophia when Farrah runs around town with different guys all the time.... hellllll no. She's an enabler in every sense of the word.
I don't mean to come off rude or anything, but what is she supposed to call herself then?

It made me mad when Catelynn and Tyler said that they would be parents for the rest of their lives. Um, not so much.
Maci is surprisingly my favorite too. She was dealing with a crappy fiance but she left for the sake of her son and went back home. She always has her emotions in check and I only remember one time where she seemed to be sad that she had Bentley... which was when her friends started to go off to college. She always goes back to wanting to do what is best for her son, and living with the decision to keep him. I really admire her for that.

I have gotten sucked into this series too. I am so bad...I DVR it.
Maci is my favorite. She seems to really care about Bentley and making a future for herself. I was impressed that she made sure that she finished high school even though she was pregnant and later had an infant. Maci and Ryan seem to have the best home life.
Amber, on the other hand, drives me absolutely nuts. I want to fast forward through her parts.
Farrah has to realize that she is a mom first. She is too worried about getting a boyfriend and wants to leave Sophia with her parents all the time.
Catelynn startefd out as my favorite because she seemed so mature and made such a hard decision. Like OP, she has started to take a turn for the worse.
exactly. and the tattoos....?
I just think that she's in a f-ed up situation and doesn't know how to deal with it. Her bf is a douche and he's lazy. With all of that being said, she does cry and whine wayyyy too much.
They are ADOPTED PARENTS or BIRTHPARENTS
They are NOT parents or mother/father
Sorry and Tattoos? WTF?! I feel bad for the little girl because years from now she is going to watch this show.
Granted she will probably be happy (like I am) for getting the chance at a better life BUT also getting to see how F-ed up everything is it will probably cause some issues.
Not to mention with AMBER:
If you CANNOT afford school. STOP going out for food. STOP getting your nails done!!! That makes me soo mad.
That makes sense. I was just thinking of mother / father as a more technical term I guess: her egg, his sperm.
This. Totally unacceptable. Maci may be my favorite, but I really think she is selling herself short in dealing with Ryan. He's a child and she has a child of her own, she doesn't need two. I really don't like Ryan.
I can understand the tattoos. Even though she gave Carly up, that's always going to be a part of her. Having her foot in her shoulder is something sentimental to her, but on the same note, I think she doesn't understand that giving your baby up for adoption doesn't mean that you can be angry when you don't get pictures of her when you want them, or can see her when you want to. She is lucky enough to have had an adoptive family that agreed to a semi open adoption.
Gary may be lazy, but I don't think that Amber is much better. If you watched 16 and Pregnant, she was so happy about starting a family. She seemed to be the least worried out of most of them, and I think now she's just experiencing a huge shock that it isn't how she thought. Even in 16 and Pregnant, he bought that PS3 instead of saving for the baby. What exactly did she expect....?
ETA: I almost meant to mention that she didn't seem to mind dropping out of high school. She acted as if she had no other options, then was so depressed when she wasn't able to go back to get her actual diploma.
Yes. My BM got a few pictures from after I was born. Then in August was able to see me 24 years later. Now she will be able to see me via facebook but I limit that also. I still think such a huge tattoo and thing like that could have been smaller plus you NOW have to do that with every child you have. Or are they not special??
I love Maci but Ryan needs to be thrown out, however it seems that the parents are also pushing them. Again with this show, what happens years from now when the son watches videos of this and sees how is Dad was out clubbing and ignoring him? He doesn't understand now but will when he gets older.
I don't know if I can call Amber lazy from what I have seen, but she is 100% a brat!!! On top of being a brat she's a drama queen.
Yes, this. I have a tattoo of my American Bulldog's paw print on my hip. I was devastated after losing her, but God had more in store. I now have my chocolate lab and it may sound cheesy and corny, but he is so fulfilling. The love I have for him is amazing, as for my rat terrier too, but I won't be getting tattoos of their paw prints. I don't have enough hiding places and don't want to look like a dog walked all over me
Not that dogs and children are exactly the same, but I see where you're going with it. Carson and Stella aren't any less special, but they certainly don't get a tattoo.
True. Being a parent doesn't automatically make you an adult.
Yep. They're still immature. But agreeing to be on a follow up reality show which focuses on their progress, they're asking to be judged and gossiped about. I'm not doubting that they are doing all that they can do, but attitudes like Farrah's "I'm still a teenager and my parents should watch the baby while I go out" is unacceptable, as well as Amber going off at anything and everything simply because her fantasy of having a family didn't turn out as expected with a douche of a man.
I think when it's all said and done, it's still a TV show. Reality shows aren't all reality. Farrah's boy thing, well, that's her thing, so I'm sure the producers play into that, and ask her to do so as well. Really, she may be going out once or twice a month, but they make it look like every other day. Maci & Ryan, same thing, the back & forth is what keeps ratings up. Catelynn & Tyler, if they weren't constantly talking about their baby & what they went through, what would be the point to them being on?
Basically, the producers make it a show that gets ratings. How interesting would it be if Farrah started staying home, C&T finally got past everything & moved on with their life, and Maci finally left Ryan for good. It wouldn't even make it the whole season.
What bugs me about the show is that there's not much focus on actually being a teen MOM... they totally focus on the teens' relationships with the boys in their lives, and don't show much of the "mom" stuff (like taking care of a sick baby, getting up all night to breast feed, witnessing the milestones of baby's first ____, etc.). It's just a soap opera... and it's aimed at teens. Instead of showing teens what it will be like to have a baby at 16/17, they just flaunt "What Could Happen To Your Relationship!" (look how much you'll fight, see how the baby tears you apart?, your parents will become a-holes)... which is lame.
Still, I watch it every week. Sigh.
