The Business of Being Born

Hello ladies, I haven't been on here much lately due to all the holiday craziness and events! Hope everyone had a good holiday!

Anyway, I just watched "The Business of Being Born," it was really good! Made me cry about a million times and made me less scared of giving birth. Definitely a beautiful and insightful documentary!

It's on netflix instant play to boot!

  • I loved that movie. Very insightful and inspiring. It really has helped me put my foot down with this pregnancy. Thankfuly my OB/GYN agrees with me on what *I* want to do since I can't see a midwife.

That's great! I love my ob but have been considering switching to a midwife as I do not really want to have a hospital birth. To top it off out of 5 friends and family members who recently had babies all of them had c-sections. None of them were emergencies. Kinda scary! I feel like Dr.'s often decide to do a c-section too easily.

I had a c-section with my first. and it honestly WAS nessicary. But that was only due to medical error and them not freakin' listening to me. I'm not a good candidate for  a midwife this time around and my hosptial has a policy against v-bacs. HOWEVER my doctor has told me how to get around that policy. He's been my OB/GYN since I was diagnosed with a disease called Adenomyosis in August. He doesn't dink around like the other docs and has been WONDERFUL through my whole ordeal. Everyone I've talked to says he's awesome, and he's also the top reccomended doc in the area (Stanford medical trained, etc). I'm so glad I found him.

I think it was pro-woman and pro-baby more than anything else. I think it was great that they included the film maker's c-section and feelings about it, because it showed that sometimes they are necessary and that it is still a joyous experience.

I can't believe they don't "allow" vbacs! Good luck to you!

  • I'm reading "Your Best Birth" and looking forward to watching this after I'm done.  It definitely makes you think more about the whole process!

  • It made me less scared too.  It was kinda propaganda-y but its nice to be re-assured of what my body can do.
