all of you with cute sig pics, what do you shoot with?

I have a point and shoot but I'm looking to take some better pics of my dd (and maybe I can learn to do pic in posts).  Anyway, you have such nice clear sig pics.  What do you shoot with?  I'm looking at buying a Nikon D3000 or something under 700.  I just really want a nice way to shoot pics of dd.

  • I would just like to clear up a misconception that the people with cute sig pics have nice cameras. Sure, the cameras may be nice, but there is a skill also involved with taking the nice photos and it's not only the cameras doing. I just don't want people to think that by buying a dSLR they will automatically take good photos.

With that being said, I have a Canon 1d Mark II, and a Canon 40D. You could probably find a nice used camera on CL.

  • I have a D40 and I love it but I think I'm ready for an upgrade...I'm thinking about going with a D5000.

  • Nikon D90 but like a previous poster said it helps to have some photography background/training. The fact that my dh plays with Photoshop for a living doesn't hurt either. ;-)

Oh, I know that.  I think I take some really nice shots of dd but they don't have that crispness I'm looking for with the pics.  The shots are centered and have a nice way about them (not pro for sure but nice).  The other issue is that dd and my eyes always come out red.  We have blue eyes but even with the red eye reducer, we are red.

  • I totally agree w/ Punk*Mommy. I am a fine example of what not to do, lol. I bought a Canon 30D several years ago and never really took the time to learn how to use it. My pictures were so crappy and I was doing the camera an injustice. I am finally now trying to teach myself and although it is a lot to learn (and a lot of practice), it is sooooo much fun!

You won't end up with red eyes if you don't use direct flash. :)

  • We have a Canon Digital Rebel Xti.  DH is the photographer in our house so I don't know much about cameras.

Good to know :), My dh talked with a local camera store (family owned business been selling for generations) and they do classes.  If I get a DSLR, I will be taking the classes so that I'm more informed.

Both of my kids have blue eyes and I don't ever get a red eye issue unless I'm using my P&S camera which is direct flash. With my dSLR I have an external flash (ie- not the one that pops up) and I always bounce the light in the room to avoid red eye.
