Sorry, just need to vent...I got promoted a little over a year ago. The promotion meant that pretty much everyone in my department reports to me, rather than directly to my boss. The transition had been bumpy with co-workers refusing to do as I ask without checking with my boss first. Thankfully, my boss is awesome and has supported my transition and my new position in the company 100%
So, today we get an email telling us that our office will close at 3:00 PM on New Year's Eve rather than at 5:00. I get an email from my employees asking if they can leave at 1:00 instead since they come in at 7:00. Feeling horrible, I explain that since both my boss and I will not be in the office that day (my boss is on vacation and I will be out attending a funeral) that they need to be here until COB in case somebody has an urgent request. I then offer that if they like, they can come in later than normal so that they don't feel as though those who come in between 8:00 and 8:30 get a shorter workday. I felt really bad about it but know we need people here.
Her response?!? "Scott used to let us do it, but never mind"... Really? It's not like I'm trying to be mean. We really need someone here and they didn't already request the time off. And how about showing a ?little? bit of respect to your boss?!?
