Any firefighters wives' out there??

Hello all! I am a firefighters wife and thought I would ask around to see if anyone has found childcare that works with firefighters schedules. I work full-time and my husband work mostly 2 days a week, but it falls different every week.

 Any thoughts??

I am a police officers wife the schedule ends up being 2 days a week but different every week. I was very nervous/stressed about this being a problem with childcare.  I just found out today some places offer what they call "flexible calendar" schedules.  So as long as you give them 60 days notice you can do any 2 days a week.  The one place I contacted was called Play and Learn, the other two places are local.  Hope this helps, but it made me feel so much better knowing that options are out there.

Hi there!  I am a FF wife, but luckily my work allows me to work around his schedule.  So I will work his 2-4th day off and will be at home with LO on the other days.  This averages to about 8 days a month of work (I work part time).  Most of the other FF wives I know use a babysitter that will accomidate the schedule or grandparents.  Not an easy scheudle to work with.

We had the exact same issue.  DH looked at his schedule for the year and it mostly fell on Tue through Thurs that year and we found an in home licensed daycare who accepted partial weeks as long as it is the same days.  So the kids go to daycare Tue through Thurs and DH or MIL watch them on Mon and Fri.  Also DH figured in a pinch he could switch into the weekend with a guy since most guys prefer weekends off anyway.

Thanks ladies, this has been a lot of help. I can ask most places I call about Flexible calendar schedules and I am hoping my office allows me to work from home 1 day a week, but I can't ever be sure. Although, we are a very small company, it still concerns me that they haven't confirmed how much time off I will be getting!
