Don't get me wrong, when shopping before DS was born I thought the EXACT same thing.... 24 month "first holiday"?! it seemed crazy, but DS has always been in the 90th percentiles. so he wears 3T in some clothes and 2T in a few others.
My niece is 14 mo & in size 18-24 clothing due to how tall she is. People seem to have a comment for everything these days to be judgy. "That baby's too fat." "Oh why is that baby so tiny, is something wrong w/ it?" I've noticed people make similar remarks about pregnant bellies also. I don't know why everyone cares about everyone elses bodies & babies so much. Perplexing.
wow--sounds like somebodys bored today and wants to start some drama!! when they're babies you cant tell how they're gonna be when they get older. Babies grow at different rates. *rolls eyes* ....Some people.
Wow, yes, some of those people are really ignorant. DD needs bigger onesies because she is the 95% for her height, so I need bigger ones just so they snap. And yet some idiots over there would say she's obese? We're actually having weight issues, for her not gaining ENOUGH.
DD is 14 months, in 18 month clothes since 12 mo., and is still very skinny for her age. She's in the 90th percentile for height but probably only the 50th for weight. She doesn't have a lot of meet on her bones, but I guess I better have the talk with her to start watching what she eats so she's the right sizes. J/K!!
The ignorance in that post is sickening. DD wore a 24 month Christmas dress this year, do you think she is "fat"? She has been in the 95th percentile for height and weight since her 2nd month. You ladies have no idea what you are talking about so now would be a good time to STFU.
There is such thing as a baby thats too fat, and to ignore that is just ignorant. I know there are chubby babies, and that babies who are breast fed are typically a little chunky for a while. I get that. I also know that just because a baby is a bit large doesnt mean the person will be overweight. But, very overweight babies have a much higher chance of being overweight adults. Some parents feed their babies too much and this pattern follows throughout childhood. I care about this because the obesity epidemic in our country affects everyone.

Okay...my DD was 9 lbs 1 oz at birth and remained in the 95th percentile through out her entire toddlerhood. She always wore bigger sizes then her age. She was not fat then and is not fat now. She is 13.5 yrs old, 5'4 tall and weighs 100 lbs! (now please tell me how she must be malnourished...)

Robinsokj while I agree with you that the obesity problem affects us all, this post was not about fat babies but about clothing sizes for babies. The same problem exists for adult clothes (sizing being different than actual realistic body sizes/types).
Your posts in that and this thread make me wonder that you will give your kid a complex, no offense.
Since I started the post I will say that I was not trying to start drama. I really didn't understand the math on it and that is why I asked if I was missing something.

How many times do I have to explain that I understand there are size differences. If I werent pregnant I would still be able to fit into childrens clothes. Holy hell people.

I just chuckled to myself. DD has always been over the 90th
percentile in length, so she was always at least one category and
sometimes two ahead of the fit curve if we tried to buy onesies. It
sucks, too...everyone, even relatives, are always giving us cloths that
already don't fit, because since she isn't overweight they don't think of her as a bigger child.

great, youre educated in health, diet & obesity rates - that still doesnt mean you had a clue about what you posting about.
Please dont put your child on eating restrictions because they dont fit into their 'correct' sizing for their age.

You're saying people "feed their babies too much" by their first birthday? That scares me.

Ok. so obesity is a problem in our country. You hit that one on the head. But like you just said--alot of babies are "chunky" for awhile. And you cant go off that and say ooh they're gonna be a fat child. They hit growth spurts and most of the time it evens out. I dont believe that the overweight starts as a baby. I believe its in all these ridiculous foods with the extra additives that dont need to be there--that weren't there 30 years ago. And I'm pretty darn sure these parents arent feeding their one year olds mcdonalds and such. Making an argument that a one year old baby who fits 18-24 months is too big just makes you look completely ignorant.

I get your points and agree...there ARE obese kids... I think alot of it is in how America is teaching their kids to eat. Nothing wrong with giving your child good eating/exercise habits, not sure how that would give your child a "complex".

point is that as a BABY you can feed them veggies and fruit and breast milk and they will grow. you cant teach a baby that young good "exercise habits" and you cant exactly TEACH good eating. My mom used to feed me peas and such as a baby and i absolutely HATE them now.
also incase we are going to try and stereotype all babies:
preemie =/= slow
slow to walk =/= developmentally delayed
The minute you start having expectations about how your baby/toddler is going to be is the minute you are dissapointed. Kids are way too mercurial to be pigeon-holed.

I think the "complex" would come in if one assumes their baby is "obese" because they wear 24 month clothes before he or she is 24 months old.
I was a fat/chunky baby...had double chins and leg rolls and everything. That did not translate into me being obese AT ALL. I have actually been underweight/average weight all of my life and have never struggled with obsesity/weight. So, if you see a fat/chunky baby (or one who wears clothing sizes that a year advanced) don't assume that they will autimatically become obese. Obesity is a problem in America, but I would not automatically link it to chunky/fat babies.
Re: Really?
Apparently I have not seen this conversation yet. I am off to go look.
What you wrote sounds different than I think you meant it then.

If it annoys you then dont read it
No, that's not what it was about. It's about people who can't take a joke reading into stuff too much to get themselves all in a tizzy.
There's also an epidemic of stupid....although that is harder to make assumptions about by just looking at a picture.
