NYE with children?

We have a group of friends we get together with on New Year's Eve and typically we make it a movie night.  We now all have a child though and it gets difficult to watch a movie with the children.  We're still planning on hanging out together but won't watch movies unless we put a kids one in for a bit.

Any ideas for entertaining young girls for a while (1 year, 15 months and 2.5 months).  They're a little young for any organized activity and probably will have fun just playing together until they fall asleep but I was wandering what others do if you hang out with your children on New Year's Eve.

Re: NYE with children?

  • Last year we had friends over and this year we are going to their house. The kids just play and we usually have the tv on but we just chat and visit and hang out while the kids play. We always have an early night though (we plan on leaving 9/10ish and they left early last year with their kids too...just easier for me in the morning the next day with the kids :)

  • Last year, I taught Ethan how to perfectly insert the olive onto the toothpick in the martini glass.  He had fun with it.

  • We are going to a friends house for NYE this year. They are inviting children. We won't be staying all night (or even till midnight), but we will stay till around 10:00. They have 3 kids of there own (so lots of toys), but they also have an indoor pool. DS is going to absolutely love it. Helps that Grampy is coming to swim with him...lol.
