From what I've gathered here-you go in on CD3 for an ultrasound and then what? Obviously there are more sonograms to indicate number of follicles and O. When you get ready to O - DH goes in and drops off the boys and then what? Do you go in later that day, at the same time? I get the 2ww stuff-I'm a pro at that!
We are slated to start this process in January and I guess I've not really asked them exactly how it all works.
Re: Tell me a little about the IUI process
Yes, you go on CD 3 for bw. They call you that night to tell you the results and then hopefully, you get the green light to begin stims. I think some clinics vary on the follicle check, but I go in on CD7. I've responded well to the drugs, so I trigger that night with Ovidrel (CD7). I do b2b IUIs the next morning and the morning after. DH goes in very early for some fun 'n' porn and then I show up about an hour later for the IUI. After the second insemination, I go back a few days later for progesterone check. And then the dreaded 2ww begins!
Good luck!! It's really not that bad.
I haven't had an IUI cycle but my BFF just had #3 - all were failed IVF cycles that turned into an IUI.
for the 1st 2 cycles she was on IVF meds (all injectibles) and was a poor responder. basically it is similar to IVF. you go in for a baseline U/S on CD3 and then your RE tells you when to start the meds. you then are closely monitored via B/W and U/S every few days (this varies I'm sure). at some point you give yourself a trigger shot, then 36 hrs later you go in for the IUI. your DH provides a samples and they prep it, it then gets inserted into your uterus via a catheter.
It really depends on your protocol. The first IUI I only did 100 mg of Clomid and wasn't monitored. They had me use HPT's and call the first morning that I got a positive and they set the IUI for the following day.
The second IUI we added a trigger shot to the 100 mg of Clomid and when I got the positive hpt I went in for a trigger and did the IUI the next day. (I think)
This past IUI we started injectables and things all of a sudden got much more serious. The u/s on cd 3 and began injectables that day. I had a u/s and bloodwork five days later. I responded really slowly to the stims (12 days) with u/s and bloodwork every couple of days. When the follies reached maturity I triggered that night and had the IUI 36 hours later. They also started me on petrometrium (sp?) this month for the first time.
From my experience, they pull out the big guns when they start the injectables. I wish we would have gotten serious sooner.
GL!
ETA-My H was more comfortable doing it at home so he took the sample in and I'd go in about an hour later for the IUI. In that hour they wash the sperm to get only the good guys for the procedure.
