2nd Trimester

NBR: Today just plain sucks.

I know this is partly my fault because I've lost the bag to my wedding dress so it's been laying in a box on top of our dresser since September. Last night, I went into our closet and found my wedding dress laying on the ground. I picked it up and the cat I've been having issues with had peed on it. I don't know what to do. I love the cat, she's a nice sweet cat, but this peeing on clothes on the floor needs to stop. I already need to find her a home, how can I do so with this issue? I'm just at my wits end right now.

Thanks for letting me vent, ladies.

  • Take the dress to the dry cleaners and see if they can get the stain out, then have them put it in a dry cleaner box. That should keep it safe from the cat.

Have you checked with the vet to make sure kitty's not sick? They tend to pee in weird places when they're sick. It could also be a behavioral problem ... your vet may be able to give you some advice on that, too.

Sorry if you've heard this all before. GL with the dress and the kitty.

  • I'm sorry to hear about the dress :(  Maybe a cleaners can save it?  I left the closet door in the guest room open and the rabbit got in.  She pulled out my veil and bouquet (it was silk) and luckily chose to chew the fake leaves and not the veil.

My kitty growing up used to pee in my parents' closet.  We finally figured out it was because of the new kitten, also male - they didn't share well.  We got him his own box, which solved that problem, but the poor thing was traumatized by the new cat.  GL!

  • Sorry to hear about your dress. Like pp said, take it to a dry cleaners and see what they can do. As for your kitty, something may be wrong, maybe take her to the vet.

I'm having a really bad day too so I feel your pain.?

  • I'm sorry about your dress and agree with the above about it's care. As for the cat, I would talk to your vet to make sure she's not having any medical issues first. However it can be normal for cats to start urinating outside of the box... and it's usually for any number fo reasons. Did you recently change her litter? Is the box not clean enough? Is she stressed about changes in the household? We have a cat that was peeing on piles of clothes (like on laundry day) or on the bathmat. As long as we make sure his box is clean and we control the problem by not leaving the bathmat down after we use it or piles he can pee on laying around he's fine.

This is a VERY normal behavior for cats and I wouldn't give kitty away until you try to control the situation some yourself. I know how frustrating it can be, believe me, but it can be controlled.

  • Some cats can be very prone to UTI's and cystitis (I have one who's dealt with it forever) and one of the number one signs of it is peeing in odd places, scratching obsessively at litterbox, hindend scooting, excessive licking, etc. If kitty is on a high ash cat food (most grocery brands are bad due to their high ash/phospherus content), doesn't drink enough water, etc it can cause it --- or it can come for no apparent reason at all. It requires a urinalysis and antibiotics, and keeping the litterbox super clean/appealing to cat.

I'd send kitty to vet to rule that out before getting TOO terribly mad at her. After that you can also buy a special litter called "cat attract", that literally draws them to their box with some natural herbs.

And a dry cleaner should be able to restore your dress.

We're actually moving in with the ILs and they don't want her. She's overweight and gets poop stuck to her butt and can't clean it off, as well as the peeing on clothes left on the floor - she doesn't do it all the time though. I'd bring her to a vet, but I'm unemployed and every penny that comes in goes to rent at this moment....
