Hi! I just saw your response to my post below. I am by no means an expert on collages. This one was actually the first one I've done. 
I used Microsoft Photo Editor because it's the only program on my work computer and just cut/copied into a new file. I didn't intend for it to be black & white but that's how the copied and I couldn't figure out how to get color back. LOL Hope this helps and good luck working on your collage!
