I had one at 28 wks last time, no they dont give you less novacaine. Call your Ob they will give you a list of NO's while getting a root canal--like xrays and gas--though I had to have an xray and it was fine. But I was very comfortable this time (had one before) bc of the novacaine--lots of it. It sucks, but go to someone really well recommended and you'll be fine. You shouldnt be in crazy pain, just uncomfortable. GL

Novocain is perfectly safe during pregnancy (as long as they don't use Carbocaine). The only major risk to a pregnant woman during a root canal is the xray exposure - when I do root canals I take about 4-5 xrays to make sure my files are in the right place and to make sure the filling goes all the way to the bottom of the tooth... there's really no way to be sure of this without an xray. If you HAVE to have the root canal due to a risk of infection, then make sure you have extra protection from the xrays (double lead shields, etc).
