wtf, BRU?

I just went to check my registry to see if they has switched anything else on me and all of my big ticket items have gone UP in price.  Um...arent we in a recession?  Shouldnt things be getting cheaper.  I think I'm going to check to see if these things are on amazon.  Stupid BRU

Re: wtf, BRU?

  • Eh, most economists say "recession over". I don't really buy that, but I do know that most major retail stores pass on some sort of price increases at least once a year... I guess the first of the year makes sense. I'm off to check mine!!

  • If we are in a "recession" then they are making less money which means they need to slightly increase prices to make up and be able to sustain business.  On the other hand the other poster is correct about companies increasing prices about once a year.
  • Oh, and I checked my bassinet on amazon and was shocked to see that it was 20$ more than on BRU.  Go figure.
  • Usually BRU will have an end of januray sale which usually counters the new year price increases.

While the unemployment rate has not declined consumer confidence is on the rise.

The problem is that many go by this " The standard newspaper definition of a recession is a decline in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for two or more consecutive quarters."

The GDP was up 2.3% breaking the decline though process which results in claims the ression is over.  That being said the Business Cycle Dating Committee at the National Bureau of Economic Research which considers other factors in their classification of ression "employment, industrial production, real income and wholesale-retail sales, and housing markets"   This seems to take into account more of the picture to see how fragile the economy is as they view a ressions as "the time when business activity has reached its peak and starts to fall until the time when business activity bottoms out"

The problem is the on average a ression lasts a year but we currnetly seem to be in a rolling ression where while stocks rise other areas to be considered fall we are still in a very unstable enviorment.

As to the hike in baby goods, Studies also show that during times of ressions there is an increase in births.  The quarters line up with dues dates and needs.  Could be another reason for price hike.

Wow, good info? - thanks for sharing!

I have to agree about the increase in births. There was a boom expected, and I definitely see it my circles. So far, 9 pregnancies and couting, all due between Feb - June.?

Wonder if the increase in births has any correlation to the increase in beer purchases? Haha! Most likely a coincidence, but a funny thought.

  • Hmmm I work there.. Sorry that happened though
