2nd Trimester

the sickness continues

I need advice! I am a new mommy to be and  I am 13 weeks and 4 days and I have had a miserable/uncomfortable first trimester.  I thought that I would be in the clear by now, but I continue to vomit daily. My sickness was so severe, that I had to be put on zofran. (I was vomiting up to 5 times a day!) It helped, however, the symptoms did not go away. I continue to lose weight (however my doctor is not concerned) and have difficulty eating. Has anyone else experienced such a horrible first trimester? And is it unusual for me to still be vomiting? I'm also still sooooo tired. Please help! This is so new to me! Shouldnt these symptoms be gone by now??

Re: the sickness continues

  • sorry you're going through this.  Unfortunately it doesn't always go away by the 2nd tri.  I was sick and on zofran the whole time I was pregnant with my son.  This pregnancy has been the same and I'm still on zofran.  I didn't start gaining weight with this pregnancy until 18/19 weeks and that was after losing 16 pounds in the first trimester.  I've just now reached my pre-pg weight and I'm almost 23 weeks.

  • That sounds like a post I would have done! I'm 17 weeks and still on Zofran. It's not "as bad" as it was in my first trimester but I still am nauseous and throw up usually once a day. I have no appetite and have lost 11 pounds so far, which my dr. is fine with. My first trimester was AWFUL. Even with the zofran, I couldn't eat. Everything smelled bad and I just wanted to lay in bed all day. Plus with the constipation (which I still have), some serious stomach cramps. With my daughter, everything was gone around week 14. So I'm just waiting and praying it doesn't stick around the whole pregnancy. So, that's my experience... I hope it ends soon for you!
  • unfortunately the m/s tale that it goes away when you reach your 2nd tri is def untrue... im now 26 weeks and have been off zofran pump since week 22.. i lost 18 lbs and have not gained them all back yet.. give yourself time and hopefully you get better in no time

  • I really hope that your morning sickness eases up soon, but there is always the possibility that it will last until delivery. I took Zofran up until delivery with my son. I have severe m/s with this child too. During my worst weeks, even with Zofran, I would still vomit 40-50 times a day.  So in my eyes, vomiting 5 times a day isn't too bad. lol

If I start feeling a little depressed, I try to think of the women who are sicker than me and tough it out through their pregnancy. There's always someone with worse complications!
