PNP's? Do I need one and if so what kind?

Hi girls!

I'm finalizing my registry this week and don't know what to do about the Pack and Plays.  I assume I only need one?

What has your experience been and what model, two bassinets, etc?

TIA!

  • It depends on what you plan to use for bassinets, co-sleepers, etc. I decided to just do 2 PNPs that they've used since day one. At first I had both in one (with the bassinet feature) but they've exceeded the weight limit (think it's 15 lbs.for the bassinet). They do great in them! But some use co-sleepers or bassinet cribs as their main starting out beds, so I'd think you'd only need 1 PNP if they aren't going to be used as your newborn beds.

You can get a PNP fancy or simple--I got matching ones; the Nouvelle model. It has a bassinet and a changing pad feature, too. They come with a simple mobile too that the girls are just now starting to show interest in.

    Each was $119 at BRU.

  • I have a pack and play not made for twins.  I used the top part for diaper changes for about 3 months and then they got too big for it. I never used it for sleeping as I had the girls in their cribs from the beginning.  So I keep mine in the living room and use it for their cat naps.  Think what you would actually use it for but I do find it necessary (though I cant wait to take it down and get some more room in the house).

  • Good question! My husband and I were discussing this last night. He wants the PNP with the twin bassinets but it's my understanding it only holds 15lbs total, including the weight of both babies. Is this correct? That seems like a waste of money to me.I'm curious if anyone else got it and used it a long time.

I'm leaning towards a co-sleeper because the total weight is 30lbs and we could use it longer. It also converts to a PNP.  We have mono-di twins and it looks like I'll have a c-section. The co-sleeper would be nice if that's the case.

Good luck! There are so many choices and hard to plan for the unexpected!

  • We are currently using the basinette feature of our PNP for the babies to sleep in.  It does only hold them until 15 lbs but my intent is to move them into the cribs by 10 weeks, which is when I go back to work.  For us, the PNP has been invaluable since we have been home from the hospital.  We wheel it back and forth between the family room and our bedroom and the babies have plenty of room to sleep in it.

Yes, this is correct.  ALL PNPs have a 15 pound limit in the bassinet, and the co-sleeper has a 30 pound limit.  For that reason alone, we're going with the co-sleeper.  We will have them sleep together in it in our bedroom for some time until we decide to put them into their cribs.  I figure, if I do have a c-section and want to use it by my bed, at least I have that option.  And like you said, you can always use it like a PNP when they get bigger and don't use the bassinet anymore.

  • Here's the one I picked out at BRU: Carters Comfort Care Playard. Holds around 30 lbs I think.. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3763009
