3rd Trimester

rash on fingers and toes

DH and I have been home for the holidays (long road trip) and about a week after arriving I've developed a rash on my fingers and feet. Imagine lots of tiny itchy bumps that look a bit like poison ivy. They don't bother me as much when it's not hot but of course our southern relatives keep the heat up high during this season they call winter. Anyone else have anything like this? My next doc appointment is next week and I need relief so I'm thinking about calling.

My guesses as to what's causing it:

1) My dad says they're "sweat bumps" related to stress (which I can understand since I'm spending a lot of time around my mom)

2) I ate MIL's oyster dressing on Christmas day (not the oysters themselves but the dressing they flavored) but it's never had this effect outside of pregnancy

3) Something I've never heard of and can't find on google. Most of the rashes I'm reading about seem much more extreme.

Re: rash on fingers and toes

  • The way you describe it sounds like PUPPP to me...though, it usually doesn't start on your extremeties, it starts on your belly, arms or thighs. Worth having your Dr. take a look at. I found that keeping it dry (which is maybe why when you're hot it's worse if you're sweating) and using Hydrocortizone helped me a lot.

  • Use benadryl for the itch......its ok to take.

  • do the little bumps have fluid in them? try googling "dyshidrotic eczema" and see if that looks familiar. it might also be what your dad is talking about.

  • I found this thread by typing in "rash" because I'm suffering from a hands and feet rash, too, which is crazy itchy and gets worse at night. I got nowhere but freaked out when I googled this, and unfortunately my OB blew me off about it at my 29 week appt. Monday. I called back the next day to the OB office and talked to a nurse, who told me to go to my reg. dr. This dr. thought it was a fungal rash and prescribed some cream. I'm hoping this takes care of it.

Good luck to you--be persistent with your doctor(s), especially if you are worried like I was/am!
