Poll: When do you take down your Christmas tree?

if you had one, of course...

And at what point does it become socially unacceptable to have it still on display?

I ask because 1) we had such a great Christmas that it's going to make me sad packing it away; 2) I honestly don't know when we'll have the time or energy to do it; and 3) I really don't want to be that neighbor.

Re: Poll: When do you take down your Christmas tree?

  • Ours is down, chopped up, and out for tomorrow's garbage pickup.  :)

  • 20 days after Christmas is the tradition for the hubster. Since we don't get one/put it up until the week of Christmas it would be silly to take it down so soon.

  • We can't take it down fast enough for me, it makes me sad to look at it after Christmas. But DH is the opposite, he wants it up as long as possible and since he takes it down, it's usually around the New Year.
  • Growing up it was always up for the 12 days of Christmas, so until the Epiphany on January 6, but we didn't put it up until Christmas Eve.  Now, I try to keep it up until then, but since we put it up way before Christmas Eve, it's usually pretty dead by then, so I do it a little earlier.  I like to wait until after the new year, though.  Of course, if it's not real you don't have the dead problem, so I would leave it up until the first week of January, especially because of reason #1.
  • It will definitley stay up after New Year's.  Growing up it was until 3 kings day.

  • We take it down after January 6th (Three Kings Day).

    :-)

  • We leave ours up till after New Years. Thats what my family has always done.
  • I was ready to take it down yesterday but DH protested.  We leave it up until the weekend following New Years.

  • We (meaning I) will be taking it down this week while I am off of work.  I just can't wait until I go back...it will seriously suck.

  • Epiphany - Jan. 6th.  That's the way it was for both me and DH growing up.

It honestly bugs me how quick people are to rip everything all down the day after Christmas!  I think people should at least keep it up through New Years.  I enjoy looking at all the lights/decorations and hate when they go down.  :(

  • We dismantled ours today.  I probably would have been willing to leave it up longer, but one of the light strands flickered out a couple days ago (it's apparently a bad string) so only half the tree lights up.

  • Growing up, we've always left it until right around New Years, so that's generally what I still do.  THis year we are celebrating Christmas with the ILs at our house the weekend after New Years, so we will keep it up probably until the 4th.
  • too much work goes into it to take it down too early!  After New Years sometime.

  • New Years Day.  My parents always ripped it down immediately after Christmas (seriously, sometimes Christmas morning) and it seriously bummed me out, so I have some tree separation anxiety, I guess.

  • I started taking ours down last night. My grandmother always said it was bad luck to leave it up after New Year's, so we've always taken it down before. She probably said that because she was a teacher and needed to get it put away while she was on break! :)

  • We usually leave it up until after the 1st but we're turning our study into a playroom and I'm anxious to get it organized so we'lll probably take it down today.
  • Usually a day or two into the new year.  We're painting the room our tree is in this weekend, so it will probably come down before 2010.
  • around New Year's for us, too.
  • When we put one up (we  did nothing this year) it's a New Years Day activity. When I was in nursing school, it didn't come down until after Valentines day!!

  • Usually the weekend after new years for us. Unless it is really dead and dry, then sooner.
  • I took it down on the 26th.  The boys got so many big toys that I was feeling a little claustrophobic with the tree, the gate around the tree and all their new stuff.  So I took it down.  I usually do take it down around then though.  We put the tree up around Thanksgiving, so even though I love looking at the tree and the lights, I'm usually done by just after Christmas.  I've ordered my husband not to take the house lights down until next week though.  :)
  • We always take ours down on New Years day.
  • Well we have a fake tree but we'll take it down after New Year's.
