Babies: 9 - 12 Months

My son refuses to drink juice anyone else have that problem?

My DS is 8months.. I have given him different types of juices and have watered them down but everytime he has given me a 'Ewwww' look and throws it.
I tried in a sippy cup and in a bottle. No luck.
I don't know if its a bad thing or a good thing that he won't take juice.
Any suggestions of how to get him to ease into it?

  • That's a good thing he doesn't need juice at all.

You will probably get a lot of different answers, but at his age I think it's a good thing he doesn't want it.
    This.  Juice is nutritionally useless.
  • It's a good thing...he doesn't need it right now. I give DD a little bit of water in her sippy at mealtimes so she can practice using the cup.

  • He has no need for juice.  If you want him to learn to drink from a sippy, use water or formula or breast milk.  He doesn't really need water either if he's getting enough formula or breast milk, but it is a better choice than juice.

  • why are you forcing juice on him? this is so weird to me.

  • DD's pedi said to only give her a half prune juice half water mixture if she has constipation issues.  I've only tried it once about a month ago and she gagged from the taste of it.  I won't ever try it again.  She loves water!

  • For constipation, fine...but we won't even be giving it to him when he's much older let alone now.  Even when he's 5 I'll be watering it down a lot.
  • I agree with everyone else, that is great that you LO doesn't like the taste of juice. They're way too sweet and full unnecessary crap, we do the water in the sippy's, instead, too.

  • every morning i put about 1/2-1oz of prune just IN Ls formula (mostly to help her go to the bathroom bc we started giving her some powder formula and it makes her poop harder) and thats the only way she will drink juice too.. OR she will drink watered down white grape juice from a cup, yes a big girl cup not a sippy.

  • Why does he need to drink it? I don't plan on introducing juice for a very long time--and then rarely. It's just sugar. Give him fruit.
  • Juice is bad for their teeth and nutritionally not much better than sugar water or soda.  I wouldn't push the juice.  If you are trying to transition him to a sippy cup, use water or milk/formula.
