Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

Ok, so I bought Caleb a Nintendo DS....

I just couldn't help myself. He wants one soooo bad, it's all he talks about. At first, I actually bought him the leap frog handheld video game b/c I thought he just wasn't old enough, but he knows the difference. I thought the leap frog would do the trick but when he saw it at the store he said, "that's not a ds momma!" so I broke down and got one.

I also bought the warranty that covers anything that breaks it, including dropping it in water, and the armor, just in case Colten throws it or something.... and I know he will!

I do know it's a little much for him but my only excuse is he wants one SOOO bad and he truly thinks Santa is bringing one and I just couldn't let him down. I do know that sounds silly but it's my only excuse! Ok, so anyway, I guess now I am wondering what you all think?? Should I take it back?.... I am having buyer's remorse big time.

Re: Ok, so I bought Caleb a Nintendo DS....

  • Don't feel bad.  I let MIL get dd a Wii for 2 reasons... 1. she really wanted it, and 2. so we can play with it :)  DH likes video games, but is anti owning them so the kids aren't stuck indoors when they should be playing outside... now he can't complain since MIL bought it :)
  • Here's my thought, give it to him!!

Keep in mind, DH and I are "gamers" - so my reasons are selfish.....I'd give it to DS and then buy myself some games and totally hoard it when he wasn't paying attention.

    But that's just me.

(Yes, DH has the blue one and I have the pink one - Nintendo DS's.....and we're goobers, we also have WII, XBOX, Super Nintendo, Old School original Nintendo, an old school Atari game hook-up for our TV and I'm addicted to IWIN.com and bigfishgames.com.)

Hmm.....maybe I shouldn't be listened to AT ALL when it comes to video games.

  • Loading the player...
  • I would give it to him. He knows the difference and really wants it.  I know that I will be a sucker when DD is able to ask for things too.

  • I say give it to him especially if that's what he asked Santa for. I bought DSD the Leapster a few years ago and ended up taking it back and getting the DS too. The Leapster games graphics were terrible and I figured we could use the DS longer.
  • Think about how excited he will be when he sees it Christmas morning.

ETA: This is horrible, but you can also think of it as leverage in the future. "Caleb, you can play the DS when you've [insert chore here]." Will anything else he gets for Christmas hold that kind of weight? Again, I fully admit this is the wrong way to look at the gift, but it did cross my mind.

  • Our youngest niece is 4 and she LOVES her DS. She started playing her older sisters around 2 (ya...no lie...lol). My husband is a manager at Gamestop and he says that the DS usually can stand up to a yonger kid (versus a PSP that will break after one time of being dropped). We have even dropped our DS and it held up! I can't wait to see when he will have our kids playing games with him...

    Keep it. Big Smile
