Can older babies get cradle cap?

Eve has some icky looking flaky kind of yellowish stuff on her head. I only really notice it if she's got pigtails cuz she has so much hair.. Is it cradle cap? just plain dandruff? Or I was thinking since its yellow, maybe its build up from the baby shampoo? Dh makes me just rinse Eve's head with a wash cloth so I wonder if soap is getting left behind?

Re: Can older babies get cradle cap?

  • Per our pedi, cradle cap and dandruff are the same (seborrheic dermatitis).

He said it can come and go, even as they get older. We are using California baby hair and body wash that has tea tree oil and lavendar I think. It helps, but is $$$! I would def start rinsing out shampoo with a cup of water to get it all rinsed out! She has a lot of hair, you do need to get all that shampoo out.

  • I would rinse with more than a washcloth.  why does dh want you to that?  we use a 2 cup measuring cup to rinse.  I've upgraded from the 1/3 cup i used for the first 10 months.
  • Julie.. i dunno, he doesn't like when i pour a lot of water over her head, I guess because she doesn't like it.. SO I have to wring out a washcloth over her head 20 times.. I just want to use the shower sprayer!

We use this too as well as some baby oil before bathtime and rinse it out.

this seems silly to me.....you are both swimmer/water people! I would think he would want her to get used to having water in her face! lol

Ryan could care less when I dump water over his head and face, I can't wait to get him in a pool!
