Upstate NY Babies

Just paid for Lamaze class :-)

I don't know why I'm excited about this, but I am!  K and I are going to take Lamaze in February.  We also need to sign up for CPR since it's been awhile since either of us had it. If you took Lamaze was the class worth it? Did you use tools you learned?

Re: Just paid for Lamaze class :-)

  • we took a birth class that taught various techniques.  Unfortunately I didn't use a single thing.

My water broke and I started having awful cramps - DH told me to time them b/c he said the Drs were going to ask... haha they were contractions about 2 mintues apart by the time we got to the hospital an hour later and I was begging for the epidural.  I was in such horrible pain, the nurses were telling me to breathe through it but I couldn't.. it was so bad!  But it is so rare that a first baby progresses so fast like that... I was basically ready to push an hour after my water broke and thank heaven I ended up getting the epidural (they bumped me past all the other ladies who were waiting for it).

I wish I could have used the techniques, but there is no way!  I am not trying to scare you by any means, I have never met anyone else who had a labor like mine.  It is good to know the techniques regardless.

  • I'd be excited too. Where are you taking it? We're going to St.Pete's but are taking the Mon night classes that start in March- so you can let me know how it goesWink
  • We did!  I did find it useful but even moreso DH did.  I didn't use the breathing as much during labor as I did with the pain from breastfeeding!  lol  Also, if you didn't yet, check to see if your insurance covers the class - mine did 100%!

We also took the CPR class - it ended up being both CPR and Choking which was nice - and was for adults, children, and infants - very helpful!  Also, it didn't go the whole time which was even better. ;-)

  • Enjoy your class! We didn't take lamaze, but we did take a c-section class, tour of the hospital and infant care class.
  • I've never heard of a c-section class...I may look into that, although I only have a week and a half left!

My version of Lamaze was telling DH "I need you to hurt me MORE that the contractions are"...he thought I was crazy...but I told him to squeeze my shoulder or arm really, really hard to distract me. So there's always that! : )
