2nd Trimester

When do you stop nipple stimulation?

I only ask here because a search on Google would yeild 5,000 porn results, and i'm at work...

The Background: Everyone and their mom says that stimulating the nipples could lead to pre-term labor.

My Question: When does this effect you? Late in your last term? A week before your due? After V-Day?

I ask because its the only thing that really gets me "going", and now that i'm a little further along I can't help but worry during sex if i'm going to inadvertantly cause something.

Sorry if its TMI, but inquiring minds want to know.

Re: When do you stop nipple stimulation?

  • I actually haven't heard that leads to pre-term labor...but either way i'm probably no help I can't stand having my nipples even looked at right now-they're so sensitive!!

  • I have heard during labor nipple stimulation helps bring it on stronger but I have never heard that it can cause preterm labor.

  • hmm I was able to find 2 results that were semi-useful, but it looks like this is more aimed for woman that are high-risk/multiples.

Links here and here . Guess I was hoping someone a little farther had some advice from the doc, but maybe this is more of something to worry about during the 3rd tri?

  • I've heard that it has to be a *lot* of stimulation, repeated many times, to actually induce any kind of labor.

I'm the same way you are about it "getting me going" and I've noticed during my PG it takes less and less stimulation for the equivalent result, so I'm not worried about inducing labor.

I *am* worried about leakage during pregnancy though...this is kind of gross IMO and would definitely wreck the mood for me Embarrassed

[edit--I'd be more careful, however, if for some reason you're at risk for pre-term labor]

[edit #2--I just found this on a midwife's web site:

"The usual recommendation is 15 minutes of continual stimulation on each nipple each hour for several hours. So, the amount of stimulation you may experience during intimacy, while nursing an older child, or while pumping your breasts while pregnant will not cause you to go into labor."

  • Nipple stimulation can help bring on labor at the end of your pregnancy, but the amount of nipple stimulation that is required to release enough of that hormone is literally hours and hours on end of rubbing your nipples. A normal amount of nipple stimulation during sex is never going to cause preterm labor. Don't worry about it.

Thanks to this starting hubby wants no part with the nipples.  Its kind of grossing him out.  Ah the joys of motherhood...

  • I am with you. I worry about leaking on my dh. He understands and isn't freaked out by  it.   I doubt it will cause  labor.
  • I was just reading in "The Thinking Woman's Guide" that to *maybe* bring on labor, you could do nipple stimulation for 3 1 hour sessions a day (3 hours total!)  It was under the category of things like eating spicy food, though (i.e. no actual studies to support or deny it).

I cannot imagine 3 hours a day, even before pg!
