Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What age did LO *really* start playing with Little People?

I followed the bandwagon and got dd the LP Farm and Airport (her daddy is a pilot, so that was a must!)

But I really can't imagine her playing with them right now.  I mean, I imagine her dragging them all over the house, but actually playing with the set, not so much...

so when did your child "get" Little People? Maybe I need to have higher expectations? haha

  • DD is playing with the nativity. She puts the people in the different buildings and knows some of who is who. I think they play with them differently for MANY years.

  • Wondering that too. They got a bunch of Little People stuff for their birthday and I keep finding the people under the couch and entertainment unit. They suck on them or toss them around. I wonder when they'll actually play with them.
  • Agree with the PP that they probably play with them in different ways as they get older. Even if your LO just likes carrying the animals around and opening and closing the doors, that still makes for a fun toy!

DD has the Little People dollhouse at my mom's house, and she loves it so much I bought one for our house. It helps that it's interactive... she likes ringing the doorbell while making people come through the front door, and sitting someone on the potty then making it flush, that kind of thing. But I'm sure she's largely just modeling our behavior, since we "showed" her how to do all those things.

  • My mom got DD the LP bus last Christmas when DD was 8 months, and even then she liked to put them in and out of the bus, which amazed me. She now enjoys lining them up on top of the baby gate and then knocking them down. She has always particularly liked playing with this bus, although it's not like she's playing "make believe" with the people or anything like that yet.
  • Carter does NOT get the Little People stuff as of right now...
  • DD got Little People stuff last Christmas, and played with them...mostly by sucking on them, throwing them around etc.  That's playing at that age.

She is currently playing with the nativity scene (according to her, Joseph is interchangeable with any of the shepherd's...which will be some good entertainment when my ultra-religious ILs come!!).  Her people now 'talk' to each other.

I remember playing with Little People (who were MUCH smaller when I was that age), so I am sure that she will continue to play with them as she gets older...just differently.

Seriously, I don't think you can go wrong with them.  If you find that she's not interested, put them away, and pull them out this summer.  I had put a few away last year, and DD was sooooo excited when I pulled them out a few months ago!

  • DS plays with his, but it's still in the carrying them around/opening doors to hear the noise stage.  But he loves them - the cow has been his BFF lately so we don't regret getting them for him at all.  He also loves to put the animals in the farm silo and then try to fish them all out.  Silly boy!

  • My DDs seem to be "playing" with the nativity.  Of course, at this stage, that mainly means taking pieces and throwing on the floor and chewing on some.  Bethlehem is destroyed daily. :-)  One DD does like to push the top of the stable and make it play music though.

I got them a couple Little People things for their birthday so it will be interesting to see what they do with them...

Ah yes.  We have the farm and call it 'terror in the heartland' when DS comes through.

  • I have to say, I didn't think DS really "played" with them until I saw him at my mom's house.  She has some old sets from when I was little and he was playing with the house...kept putting people in the beds and covering them with Kleenex -- their "kikis" (that's what he calls his blanket).  And for days he talked about opening the garage door and saying "ding dong" for ringing the doorbell.  I guess I need to give him more credit!  But he's almost 2 years old.
