Last night Evan started shaking his head back and forth. It was funny at first...but then he kept doing it so you start to go hmmm.
He's done it a few times today. He has also grabbed at his ear a bit (a lot while he was eating breakfast this am) but I tend to think that is just teething since he's really close to popping 3 top teeth.
He's kind of been whiney - but again, we think it's been his teeth. He has been sleeping fine - but maybe getting up a little earlier than usual. He didn't have a tub last night (I thought at first it could be water in his ear or something)
Is he just being a goof with something new? Something else?
Anyone's LO do this?
Re: Why is he doing this?
I have no idea. G gets on weird kicks that make me begin to wonder what she is doing- but then moves on to something else. She was recently into head shaking- right after she she discovered how much fun peak-a-boo with her hands was. I think she was just having fun with her vision.
At a Ped appointment in the spring they said that at 7/8 months they wouldn't have the cognitive aptitude to pull their ear or bang their head if it hurt (they would just know something was wrong and they were in pain and cry). So I wonder when that sort of awareness/response does begin.
It is a tough call. We thought this current ear infection was just teething, too, because his molars were actually rupturing at the same time. He was showing his typical signs of teething (whiney, fire red cheeks, not wanting to eat), so it wasn't until we took him in for pink eye that we found the infections.
Is this his typical teething behavior? Does he let you touch his ear? DS loves having his ears cleaned, he'll even try to do it himself, so he'd sit very still so that I could do it. When he has an ear infection, I notice he doesn't want me to go anywhere near the ear, probably because it hurts.
Whatever it is, I hope he's feeling better soon.
Well...I ended up taking him in and he's fine. I def wouldn't have if tomorrow wasn't Xmas Eve. I think this makes the third trip in to check his ears right before a holiday or weekend...all of which were "false alarms".
He's never been treated for an ear infection - so I don't know how he would behave if he had one. Wendy- just like your LO, we once went in for a checkup and the Dr said he had a small one...but didn't give him any meds for it and it just went away on it's own. He didn't act any different around that time.
I can't wait until he can talk and say "Mom, my ears hurt." : )
