So, I was reading the ingredients on Maalox and one of the active ones is Aluminum Hydroxide. does anyone have any info about this ingredient or know where I can find more? It just strikes me as something that may not be that great for you.
I know one of my pregnancy books recommended Milk of Magnesia vs. Maalox because of the ingredients. But I generally stay away from all pharmaceuticals so..... I'd google it and see what ya find!
Are you taking it just for heartburn? FWIW I've been drinking Mylanta (Supreme) for a couple weeks like it's going out of style. It has calcium carbonate + magnesium hydroxide in it, and there's no warning on the label re: pregnancy. I got tired of chewing up tums every time I got up to pee during the night (which was like 5 times). Since I switched to this stuff, I wake up less from the nasty heartburn during the night.
Well our pediatrician rec'd DD take a teaspoon before bedtime for a few days b/c she's been throwing up and waking up a lot at night and it is supposed to help with the acid production.
Uncomplicated peptic ulcer and gastric hyperacidity.
action:
Antacid actions include neutralization of gastric hyperacidity and mild astringent and adsorbent properties.
Antacids do not ?coat? the
mucosal lining, but may have a local astringent effect. Antacids also
increase the lower esophageal sphincter tone. Aluminum ions inhibit
smooth muscle contractions, thus inhibiting gastric emptying. Use
aluminum-containing products with caution in patients with gastric
outlet obstruction.
