Yet another daycare question

Sorry Embarrassed

Where is a good place to start to look at options?  I google in home daycare in my area and it really just brings up a bunch of junk.  Where did you all go to to start gathering information?

Thanks, and now I will cool it with the daycare questions :)

Re: Yet another daycare question

  • I don't know about CO, but in CA we can call the agency who does the licensing and they can give you a directory.  You may want to try there.

  • For me, I went to my county website and somewhere on there they had a number you could call for licensed daycares.  They might even have it online now.
  • Here in Florida on our state website you can see all the licensed daycares in each city, AND see there state inspections to see if they passed and what their issues were at each visit. The website comes in VERY handy!

Our site is called www.myflorida.com  maybe your state has something similiar?! Good Luck

  • Thanks ladies!  I had to dig a little but the state does have a decent website it looks like!

  • on my state's website you can go into the Health and Human services (i believe is the state agency) and printed out a list of daycare by area.
  • Your state website should have a listing of licensed daycares.  NAEYC accredited daycares are nationally accredited and have much higher standards than state licensed daycares.  Some states have really poor standards.  Check out this site for daycares near you that are NAEYC accredited.  https://www.naeyc.org/families/search

You can see your state's standards at this site: https://www.daycare.com/states.html

Make sure that when you check out daycares, that they follow the standards set by your state.  Just because a daycare is licensed, does not mean they follow the standards daily and does not mean they are a good daycare.  Do your research so you know what to look for.  Go with your intuition and definitely look at several daycares before choosing one.

  • If all else fails, word of mouth is a great tool.  If you are looking for in-home daycare providers, just start asking people.  Co-workers, friends, family members, neighbors, random people you know.  You'd be surprised how many people either know people or have friends that know people.  From a very weak attempt, I got 4 solid recommendations for in-home daycare providers just in my small town.
