What is your Monday confession? I had a little breakdown in the parking lot after hearing the news from the RE. I called M and he calmed me down. At least I am taking care of my issues.

 

Questions for next week? For PG or TTC. Has anyone been prescribed Serophene? Any reason why the doctor prescibed that instead of Clomid?

Hi!  I saw your replies on the check-in and wanted to say I'm glad to hear your RE has a plan for you.  I'm sorry it caused you to get upset at first, but I really hope he/she helps you get your BFP.  As far as the meds, I just looked it up and it looks like Serophene is a form of the same drug as Clomid (Clomiphene Citrate).  Sounds like it's just a different brand name.  I hope it does the trick! :-)

Are you on progesterone first (to help end this cycle and start the next), and then taking the Serophene once your cycle starts?  If that's too nosey, no problem.

Thank you, I think he is pretty good. I like him and he lokoed over my b.w from the OB/GYN and he says I have Inapproriate LH secretion syndrome. So he did give me Norethindrone which is just like the Progesterone. I start that today and he assumes I cycle will start up again on Jan 6th. After that I have a lot of b.w to do and an ultrasound.

I think I was just nervous about having Serophene instead of Clomid because I haven't heard anyone else mention that their RE prescribed that instead of Clomid. After reading countless web pages I figured it was pretty much the same.

I'm glad you like your RE.  For me, it felt good to know I had help, so I hope it helps you to have a plan of attack now!  It sounds like you may be doing the "Clomid Challenge" (or Serophene Challenge) next, maybe. That's a typical first step.  I did it in August.  The drugs, u/s, and b/w are to check your ovarian reserve (quantity/quality of eggs).  But it could help them look more closely at your LH, since that is one of the b/w draws. 

Hey, if you haven't filled it yet, check out WalMart for your Serophene.  The generic is $9 (5 days/50mg).  Depending on your Rx, it goes up to $24.  That's still WAY cheap.  Other pharmacies charge $40-70 for the same thing, even mail-order.  Crazy!  Sadly, I'd used 3 different pharmacies before I found this. :-P  GL!

Thank you for the info. I used Bartels because I guess they carry Pregesterone on stock unlike the other pharmacys. I will have to give them a call. I remember my doctor and his nurse complaning about pharmacys giving generic but I can't remember if it was Serophene or the other drug. I will have to ask them we I call on CD1. I already picked up that order so I will try on the next one.

How upsetting. I will have to ask my RE for Clomiphene next time. Does that mean it costs $9 if your insurance covers it or what you pay OOP?

That's a cash price.  I know, huh!?  I wish I had known that a lot sooner.  I've spent way too much on IF drugs already.  I don't have IF coverage, but if you did, it would be even less.

Clomiphene is the generic for both Clomid and Serophene.  So, as long as your RE is ok with generics, I would *guess* that you could get that.

Also, keep this pharmacy in mind for pricier drugs:  Freedom Pharmacy.  It's mail-order, but they have decent prices on the higher-priced stuff (not good for Clomid), and they deliver next-day.  You just ask your Dr to call/email it in to Freedom, and they'll call you for CC info.
