Thoughts on sympathetic pregnancy/Couvade?

Just a general discussion post -

I am completely fascinated with the concept of Couvade. I think it is so interesting that our husbands can also have changes in their hormones which result in symptoms or changes, because of our pregnancies.

Anyone have any thoughts on this concept? Any personal stories to share?

My husband has definitely gained weight around the middle during my pregnancy. I would normally think nothing of it, but he has a very small waist, and does not gain weight in that area. Pre-pregnancy he was heavier, but had a much smaller mid-section. Don't know if that is at all related, but whenever he complains about it, I tell him it is hormone related. ;)

  • My husband has been havings cravings much stronger than my own! He never craved food before I was pregnant. Yesterday, he craved wings and orange juice. LOL, sounds like a Pg craving to me. I am sure that he will gain weight at some point. We always eat together, before, at, and after work. With my increased eating he will prolly be eating more as well.
  • Some of it I think is related by very cause/effect means.  Hormones might make a pg woman a little more sensitive, little shorter fuse...not hard to imagine how a DH might get a little more short tempered if he's treated a little less patiently than normally.  Same with weight gain...maybe I'm snacking a little more often, more cookies/whatever around if that's what I'm digging right now, meals a little bigger, maybe DH inadvertently does too and puts on a little weight.  I've been really tired lately, and DH has been picking up the slack, so I'm not suprised he's a bit more tired lately, too!

I haven't seen anything/didn't see anything when pg with DD that struck me beyond that sort of cause/effect type stuff.  BTW, I googled couvade, that seems...odd...to me.  It seems better to have a team effort in getting the wife to deliver the baby than the husband laying around as though he was pg!

  • My SO has gained weight, over reacts to small issues and recently has an aversion to meat.  WTF!
