2nd Trimester

Too many clothes?!?!?!

Ok, so as soon as I found out that I was having a girl, I knew we would be racking up on girl clothes because of all the couples we know who have had a girl within the last year.  I didn't expect this many tho!!  Last night I took out two boxes full of nothing but 0-3 month onesies and that was only from one of the four people we are getting clothes from.  I can't use all this stuff and I am afraid that I will be getting tons more clothes for my baby shower (cuz everyone knows its so fun buying cute clothes for baby girls).  How can I be nice about it but have my sister put on the baby shower invitation that no clothes are needed, PLEASE???

Re: Too many clothes?!?!?!

  • Just say exactly that! Or, say that you have all the 0-3 month clothes you need and for people to get larger sizes.

Little girl clothes are basically irresistible...they are like crack wrapped in chocolate.

You might as well ask for bigger sizes because people won't be able to resist buying a cute outfit for a baby girl.

  • I don't think there is a nice way to tell people what to buy or not to buy.  If you don't want/need it you can always return.

You might want to post this on the baby shower board for better ideas.

  • Are you having more than 1 shower?  Maybe she can make it a themed shower.  Like for all bath stuff, or bedding, etc.  My SIL had everyone bring books for baby for my shower.

  • I wouldn't. We got a TON of clothes and were in a similar situation. What you can do is rave about how generous all of your friends/family were and that you are all set for clothes. Many will get the hint that you don't need more, but people love to buy baby clothes so there's no stopping some of it.

In the meantime, learn the joy that is going through the clothes and imagining the tiny person who will soon be living in them. I spent many hours just unfolding and refolding, sorting, "awwwing", and just having a fun time looking at all the cuteness. When you go through them, you can be selective. Choose clothes that you love, are not terribly worn or stained, and that will be close to the correct season. Put the rest away to pass along when the next person has a girl. You will still have a lot of clothes, but it will be much more manageable. Think how cute your little girl will look in all the best of the clothes that you received.

This... I actually always like to get clothes between 9-18 months for expectant moms. Everyone likes getting the nb/3 month sizes... And babies are only in this size for a matter of weeks. I know a lot of moms don't receive the larger sizes!

You are sooooo right! I am having a boy, but I still love looking at the girl clothes. They are so much fun. Not that boys aren't, there is just something about ruffles and pink and all that which I love.

I agree with that, unfortunately.  If someone asks, it's one thing, but otherwise I think it falls under the category of appreciate the intention, and hope people either buy larger sizes or buy off your registry.

  • You can definitely say something about not needing clothes. Also, when you register, put it in the info line. Like maybe "It's a Girl! No clothes needed. Gift cards welcome."
